My 96 sold Tuesday, so I was finally able to go pick up the 97 6.5 Burb my buddy has had on the back burner for me. He used it to commute until his job changed, and then it sat for a couple years as an extra vehicle, being driven once or twice a month. Finally got tired of seeing it sit and offered it to me. He bought it in 03 with 76k, and it now has 217k. It's not completely stock, but still has the stock ECM. It already has the 'normal' 6.5 mods such as spring-actuated wastegate, vac pump delete, Kennedy fan clutch, 2.25" crossover, 3" downpipe/exhaust into Magnaflow muffler (no soot trap), boost and EGT gauges. For a stock tune, it runs surprisingly good, even considering it still has the original injectors! I hated to sell the truck, but on the way home the extra interior space proved itself as the kids weren't smashed together and had room to get comfortable.

Pics to come tomorrow, it's raining and dark out right now. It needs a good bath inside and out before I can show it off anyway.

Congrats on the space upgrade. Had to do that when number three came along 20 years ago.
I want burb but for once the wife has said she wants her druthers first and in truth, it is her turn. She lost the VW Jetta TDI and wants another TDI something...something that gets better than 40 mpg city that is. Tried to convince her a Sub would be perfect but she's smarter than that. Oh well.

Congrats on the upgrade! I liked the looks of the '96 though so I hope to see the '97 be equal or better. It's best for the kids anyhow.

I want a Burb BADLY!!! Ex-cab with two young growing boys, is only going to get tighter. Been looking at C's list and finding them to keep track of prices,, So next year this time, when momma's van is paid off, it's Daddy's turn! I road trip for all of my vehicles, as the one's you find in Mi, are junk! Unless someone brought it here from far far away! Stupid rust anyway. Let's see them pic's!

Pics are coming, it has been raining every day since I brought it home. I finally washed it this afternoon, and now it's raining on it at work. This one was originally a East Coast rig, so it's not as rust free as my 96, but it has been in the Midwest since 03 and isn't terrible. My extended family thinks I'm nuts for buying a vehicle with 217k, but I'm not scared of it. The PO kept up on maintenance and it shows. Keep your eyes open, they're out there.

As far as road trippin', it's about all I do for vehicles anymore. I'm very picky on what I'll buy, and never find it locally. I went to NC for my pickup and drove 8 hours round trip for this Burb. Worth it IMO.

Finally some pics. The sun was messing with the camera a bit, but they're better than nothing. Did some more work to it today also. Swapped out the non-working EGT gauge for a digital one a buddy had and traded him my silver-faced boost gauge for his black-faced gauge to match the EGT. The boost gauge will eventually be replaced with a 0-15 psi gauge. The PO had a homebrew K&N setup on there which worked fine, but he was nice enough to throw in the original K47 so I reinstalled it with a fresh filter. Changed the fuel filter also.

Nice lookin' rig. I considered a Sub myself for the people space but Subs don't come with manual transmissions.

Thanks!

I found a CCLB K3500 SRW 5 speed locally, but it was beat into the ground. Ideally that's what I wanted, but my wife isn't comfortable with a manual and I couldn't find a decent CCLB SRW in my price range anywhere.

That was the trouble I had finding my truck. Every single truck with a 5-speed was overpriced, high mileage and beat to the ground. When I found my 99, it was used hard but not beaten past the point of fixing it up. Only thing I haven't quite gotten to is replacing the hood & grille.
