Our 1998 Suburban is going WOT. It has done it on more than one PMD. We have also developed, an as yet unlooked at, massive fuel leak.

What are the odds of it being the IP? I have a chance to buy a reasonably priced - supposedly has 800 miles on it - new Standyne - for $350 shipped or maybe a little less.

I wanted to know more by this time in the day, but things did not go as planned. Trying to weigh the odds and make a snap decision to buy that IP or not.

Thanks

Where is the massive fuel leak at?
If it is at the place where it can intro air into fuel system then you may want to fix it before even changing the IP?
Of course, that IP is not a bad deal with so many 6.5L you have, you will need it anyway.

Yep, that's the plan. I'm not changing the IP just for fun.
It's got to be properly diagnosed first. As slow as I move anymore it's hard to get caught up on projects. I'd like to chuck it all and move to a houseboat.

I did buy the IP. $250 shipped. I should have taken the one offered me a year or so ago. But I didn't want to take advantage when I didn't know for sure I needed one. Now I wish I had one sitting on the shelf. LOL

I'm still wanting to blame pmd circuit. Harness, or pins maybe? I know there is a test procedure for the fly by wire throttle-Maybe?

Fuel leak means not enough fuel, or air introduced into system, but for that to cause W.O.T. super slim chance. Always fix known problems first is proper procedure.

House boat still needs an engine, right? 6.5 marine calling you...:poke:

If you eliminate the fuel leak, given that it is happening on several known good PMD's, my vote is the IP.

For grins, might try to find a OBD-II reader to eliminate the APP (or other electrical gremlin) as a source. Also, check for codes as when my IP went bad there was a code (do not remember what it was) which did not set the SES/CEL.

I had a reman IP go bad (IIRC in about 5K miles from a local shop with a good reputation) as the throttle response was wonky and would run-away on the RPM-cycle test. New IP cured it. Have since developed an allergy to rebuilt IP's.

Also remember to eliminate the PMD extension harness, that can be the culprit also.

Another possibility is the IP harness under the intake.
With age, never know what is under there.

I have a 1998 K2500 6.5 diesel Suburban to sell

The transmission is out. I have a transmission out of a 1999 K1500 Suburban here.

It developed a massive fuel leak that I have not looked at yet. I've been running it periodically and it suddenly started leaking fuel while running.

I also have a FFM and fuel lines for it. And an injection pump

It has Leroydiesel or lubrication Specialist engine oil cooler lines and FS2500 bypass filter. Fluidamper, Hummer wheels, new injectors - Timing chain and gears at about 200,000 miles, AC Delco 60G glow plugs

It's always been run on synthetic Amsoil 5w30 heavy duty diesel oil. AC Delco thermostats
Leather seats - the front seats need to be replaced.

Custom coffee/diet coke stains on the front floor - It needs a good detailing

at least one remote PMD - probably 2. I usually run 2 per vehicle

IIRC it has about 250,000 miles on it.

Everything worked except the heater on the drivers seat

I have had health and other issues and have not been able to work on it yet.

I have a guy interested in buying it, but don't know what I should tell him for a price.

I had an oil sample done and it came back good to go.

I have decided to ask $4,000. That gives me room to come down. Seems nobody wants to buy anything unless they can talk you down.

I'd really rather fix than sell. Things just haven't been going fast on the fix it end, since somebody was interested, I figured I'd better come up with a price. I'd rather sell the 1996 and/or the Tahoe, if I had them both up and running
