Will the otc genysis scanner perform tdco on obd1 trucks? i know about gmtdscan tech, and my tech 2 is giving me problems. i can get this scanner for a deal, but will it work?

I know nothing about it.

If you are going to have to purchase it I would just go the GMCTDScantech route.

Is it currently made? Maybe their customer service could give you an answer.

No, it will not do it on OBD1 trucks. You need the GMTDSCANTECH, or a TECH 1 or 2. OBD1 6.5's are a red headed step child as far as special functions go.

I use the OTC Genisys at work. Though most of my experience with it is in the heavy duty side, its a great tool and has never disapointed me. You can get them with OBD1 compatibility using the different plugs and cards but like FERM said you won't be able to do anything with TDCO. they are great for reading codes and, my favorite, running live data-streams. Given what you said it comes with $200 is a steal. However, your best bet would be going with the GMTDSCANTECH for the 6.5L, especially if your main focus is TDCO.

When I say my tech 2 is giving me problems I mean that it will read anything except 6.5's. I have a 91 gasser, 94 gasser, and we use it at work on workhorse chassis motor homes. It works on all of them. But it will not read my diesel or my buddy's 94 6.5. It will turn on, but say you click on dtc or something, it says, lost communication with vehicle, check ignition on, off. Now if it only did it to my truck I would think grounds or ECM or something. But it does it on another truck, so it's gotta be the tech2 right? Do you need a certain card? I have the 32 mb and a candi module.

It may be the card and adapter. The ECM's on these trucks are tighter than a bulls a$$ in fly season, and communications have to be spot on. You MIGHT not have the correct card or adapter to be talking to the ECM. I have never had the opportunity to use a tech 2 scanner, but I can attest to the fact that without the right card and adapter, your not going to get anywhere.

I do have the right adapter. But I'm thinking it's the card. I'm sure someone here will chime in. The number on the 32 mb card is j-45080 if that means anything to anybody.
