I really got a bug up my @$$ to convert my Dually to a DB2 and possibly the burb as well. The Compushift is crazy money though. Ran into a vendor at the swap meet today and he was peddling this companies product. It runs about 600$ with controller and harness.

Kenny I'm moving this to 4L80 trans section, after our last discussions we had in moderators administrative area about the forum layout, we came to consensus that topics that are not obviously 6.5 engine related we would move to appropriate forum.

Couple of reasons; while this one could go either way since it is more of a 6.5 platform issue it could stay in the 6.5 area, but since 4L80 is covered in transmission area it is more appropriate to put there. 2nd reason and the main driver behind moving these kind of threads, the thought was while we veterans of the forum could find this in the 6.5 engine section rather easily, a newbie to the site looking for 4L80 info would most probably go to that section and find it more easily.

We have been rather loose in interpretation of what goes where in the 6.5 section, but to further streamline the forum where it makes sense we are going to move threads into their new destination forums. Nothing wrong with where you put it, the redirect will stay active long enough so that sufficient time to get good answers & visibility so it won't "die" there.

Kenny that isn't going to help you you need to convert to a 5 speed manual :) if it's got wires aka compushift or optshift you aren't going to have good luck with it.

On a serious note what did the vendor have to say about it in function vs higher $$ Compushift

well, of course as a dealer he swore by it but he wasn't familiar with the compushift, just the TCI. The NV4500 swap is for my CUCV eventually as it's my..."Book of Eli" truck. I was thinking about the Dually. The tranny shifts like crap and I'm not sure if it's the tune Bill did or the fact that the speedo is off by about 5mph.

why not just find a standalone computer for the 4l80E? all it needs is a tach signal and TPS. I admit there's not alot of years to get them from(91-93).

Yup, that would work.

The benefit of the "optishift" is the programability of it.

Adjusting shift points, line pressures, ratios, tire sizes, etc with a laptop interface. I'm not even sure you can alter a stand alone factory TCM.

The ability to "tap shift",etc, etc.

The factory TCM would have the advantage of price, albiet at teh expense of figuring out the wiring....

Wires and compatible transmission with the computer will be an issue. Give Bobby Martin a PM as his conversion guide covers this really well.

yeah but by the time you buy that stuff for a feew hundred dollars more this would be nice...If it works...

Yep, if it works and is plug & play that a good price. The wiring to convert to TCM is a major PITA, but can be done. We have done a few OBDII to TCM/db2 conversions.

Kenny, did you ever install one of these things or hear anything else about them? Good or bad.

You might think me bias because I sell the OptiShift now. I can say it is an excellent controller and very versitile. Two mode can be programed in Eco/tow, tow/race, race/eco ....ect its up to you to program.

No, I've read good things about Baumann Electronics. I'm glad to see we have a site vendor here that sells it.

I'm trying to get all my research done and parts lined up for a 6.2 diesel/ 4l80e swap in an 89 model suburban.

I appreciate it and I'll definitely be contacting you in the future.

When you get ready let me know. I have the one in my Suburban now that I might sell. It has maybe 5000 miles on it. Im going to switch the 6.5 back in and for simplicity use the stock ECM. I have brand new wire harness to go with it (never used).
