optical sensor/fuel temp sensor harness?

could use a little help. 1995 2500hd 6.5 td keeps coding dtc 12 on more and more on start ups? sometimes while im driving with cruise on it will suddenly ocuure but it comes down to this, I can do either two things pull over pop the hood take a pen poke at the optical sensor/fuel temp sensor connector & filters or shut down and try a restart. It seems to be getting worse as the weather keeps changing? any ideas of what the problem could be.

Is the cel (check engine light) coming on? dtc 12 is just a code for all is well, it shouldn't trigger the cel.

sorry the code is 17 and 12 is all good.

Try removing the optical sensor filter and plug the harness directly to the OS.

Theres a photo or two of my optic sensor filter just before I pulled it 2.5 years ago...no issues...so far.
