Well, a bit of preventative maintenance seems to have backfired a little on me.

While putting my FTB 2.0 in a few days ago I had the lower intake off and fuel manager out, the OPS caught my eye as it was finally somewhat out in the open. I had a brand new "standard motors" OPS laying on the shelf. I know I know.... only use an AC Delco OPS.... But I thought, well the OPS is easy to get to right now and I have no idea how old the one that's on the truck now is.... so I might as well put this new one in while I am here, it's not going to get any easier to get to than it is right now.

There was nothing wrong with the old one mind you...

As soon as I got everything back together and started the engine I noticed my oil pressure guage reads about 5-10 psi lower than what it always has before. It always use to read 50-60 at cold idle and 40 at hot idle and would go to about 50ish with a little throttle...... Now it reads 40 at cold and 30ish at hot idle and doesn't change with a little throttle....... :mad2:

I mean, the actual pressure, whatever it may be is still the same.... It is just that my "peace of mind" took a hit with the lower pressure reading on the guage.

Moral of the story:

1) If it is working fine, don't mess with it.
2) Only use an AC Delco OPS...... I already knew that, but didn't follow my own advice.

EDIT: Mods please move this to the 6.5 area..... I just realized that I posted it in the 6.5 performance area by accident.

Shoulda took that OPS up outa its hiding place with a extension hose while you had the chance.
We invented that "smart" mod for a good reason.:agreed:
That way it would take only a min to swap it.;)

Yea, you're right.....

But, I hadn't "planned" on even replacing the OPS when I started the FTB project. It just caught my eye while everything was apart.

I guess I need to think farther ahead in the future lol.

Since you already have the OPS relay mod the OPS is likely to never fail as a pressure sender and relay trigger. Well, never is a long time, but you get the point

And who knows, the new OPS may be more accurate?? And not to worry, many people have only 20 psi when warm at idle, and the owners manual says it only needs 5psi when oil is hot at idle. My ACDelco unit never moved much at all, and when it failed I put on an "HD" unit from a crappy website and it failed about 6 months later, so I did the relay mod and put on whatever from Napa, and now my pressure shows much higher all the time and inceases with RPMs. Although now its so high on the gauge that its troublesome, should I always have 60-80psi, no, but I know its not correct, because I also checked it once with a mechanical gauge, or at least it was less at the turbo hose.

241,000 on the odometer....... but it runs awesome (good power, no smoke, etc), no blow-by, doesn't use any oil at all, and was very very clean under the valve covers..... so I wonder if it's been rebuilt at some point. It's a 599 block, which would be correct for 94 right?
