I am still having random stalling problems and was sure it was the 2 PMDs I have. Well today I started checking fuel flow to see if maybe that was it. So I replaced the fuel filter and then checked my flow from the water drain valve I had none. I opened it all the way and the truck died. I checked the pump with the motor off and it was pumping away. I had an old OPS that I had replaced last year with a new ac delco. Viola Good flow and pressure at the WDV. The trucks out in the yard purring like a kitten:mad2:.

Could a bad OPS have been my problem all along? It doen´t seem likely. What could cause the death of my OPS after only a year. I was still showing oil pressure with the bad OPS is that normal?

This is stressing me out as I´m driving this truck up to the states in a week. Thanks for any replys gus

The contacts in the OPS are undersized for the job and fail often. This is why they sell OPS relay kits. The oil mist the unit's contacts gets does not help it's life any.

Perfectly normal for this switch to fail often and the reason you check LP pressure at every oil change or install a permanent fuel pressure gauge.

Yes, to make things worst, the oil pressure is still showing proper pressure because the part of the OPS that goes to the gauge and to LP are on separate circuit.

As WW said, the best solution will be to add a relay. You can DIY or buy a ready made from Kennedy Diesel.

and when you add the relay put a toggle switch somewhere so you can turn it on without the OPS, it makes filling fuel filters and checking lift pumps easy

"I checked the pump with the motor off and it was pumping away"

Does this mean you jumped the relay under the hood and the LP was pumping?

No I put in drive with the motor not running and turned the key to starting position wich starts the LP pumping.

My pump runs when the key is on regardless of gear selector position or engine running. I guess I will see if it is straight wired when I pull the intake for the IP install huh? Maybe I ordered the OPS relocation kit from Leroy for nothing...;)

Why do you want the OPS controlling the lift pump anyway? If it is going to continue running due to IP sucking it up with no warning to the driver how does it increase safety? All the while it is killing the IP too. Maybe it should be straight wired.?..

I checked out Kennedy online and couldn´t find the ready made one in the 6.2/6.5 section. Do I need to call their CS?

That is another way, with mine I have an immobilizer so before I turn that off, if I turn ignition to start the pump runs but engine do not crank.

Here is what I found on Kennedy site.

It seems thats been my problem the last few weeks. Drove it around for hours today without a hickup, stall,no start or hard start. I guess I have 2 functioning PMDs and one waiting in the states. Thanks again everyone and Merry Xmas! gus
