Greetings all,

after all the awesome input from all of you I got big red running! after installing a new IP (twice), CPS, fuel relay, new PMD, checking (and cleaning):h) every single ground, replacing fuses, checking all related wires, new LP, blowing small amount of air through fuel line to tank, I was ready to give up and along came my neighbor (GM service technician:mad2:) he suggested we test the computer with a known working unit.

I figured what the heck, purchased a rebuilt unit, plugged it in and the rig fired right up! Moral to this story, ALWAYS check the simple things first! Tomorrow my neighbor will bring over his Tech 2 scanner so we can perform a TDC offset (-1.94) and see how she really runs. Being new to diesels this was an incredible learning experience that all you (you know who you are:thumbsup:) help me get through. THANK YOU!
Now the question is why did it (ECM) fail in the first place?

This all started with surging that got progressively worse until it just would not start leading me to believe it was the IP. Only threw codes when it surged and the rig never revealed codes when I tried to retrieve them. Any thoughts on this. Bad grounds?

I use gmtdscan, leave laptop in truck hooked up if I got problems, One good thing is you got a whole lot of possible issues taken care of. any loose or bad grounds that could cause a surge or spike to ecm?

You even have to replace Smoke Alarms after 10 years - design life of electronics is 10 years.

Sure it could last longer and sometimes like the PMD it doesn't. Power surges or that last heat cycle cracking a solder joint or the silicon on a chip is all it takes. Even radiation can ruin electronics.

But, yes, replace the computer last after all else has been tested.
