Yep you read that right,, I changed the oil in the truck to Mobil 1,, and then was swapping out my glow plugs with some new duratherms,, when I pulled out the second plug on drivers side, I noticed that the element part had oil on it,, Like it 's leaking in the cylinder after shut down. I was able to do all 4 on the left side, thru the fender area with only taking out the rubber flap in there, My truck has a 3 in body life, so with just a 3/8 dirve 10mm socket and a 12in extension, I was able to remove all 4 and replace them in about 15 minutes. The pass side will be a whole other story as the 2 middle plugs have those rusty heat shields covering them, and the down pipe is in the way for the 3rd one on that side.
My downpipe is a Jardine unit, that is 3" down past the frame rail, and then goes to 4' from there back, and it doesn't have the 2 bolts to undo it from the pipe behind that. I'm hoping I can just undo the turbo clamp and the first system hanger, and drop the exhaust enough to reach that #3 plug.
This is a 2.5 year old reman engine from International Diesel. <theysuck>

So can anyone tell me what I'm in for with oil leaking in on my glowplug? :mad2:

hell the way it was chuggin, with the cold starts, from a few plugs being bad,, I couldn't tell ya if it was blue<oil>, or dark gray,<fuel>. besides its 5:45am, when I cold start it, so that makes it even harder to tell. It barely had a light coat of oil on it,, I'm thinking it's not the end of the world, or anything, but still just wondering what it could be or how bad. Also the other 3 were dry, and I'll have to see how bad the other 4 on pass side are. I plan on putting them to the test, with the battery charger to see, how many were really bad. I'm guessing 2. the old one's are 60G's

Well I swapped out the other 4 glows,, turns out after testing,, the only one that wouldn't lite up, was the one with the fluid on it,, I looked again, at it, and it does seem to be oil and not fuel. Unless the leaking fuel on a hot glow plug turns real dark,, and it only was a small amount, not soaking wet.

So now I have a complete set of duratherms in there, and 7 60G's that are still good,

After I took out the Pass fender liner, I was able to loosen the downpipe and move it aside to get to the 3rd, plug on that side. once that liner was out, it was another 15 mins to change out the plugs. While in there I took off the frame to firewall ground strap and cleaned it real good. So all is well. I did take some pics, but they are bigger than the limit to post. Maybe later I'll put them on my flicker account, and put up a link.:smile5:
