I just got my gep from Ted's running but I have lots of oil leaks.
Both sides from above mabye valve covers but I silicones them down.
I suspect a bad cdr. I put my mighty vac in the dipstick tube and read zero vacuum at idle

The trick with the valve covers is to apply a wide thick bead of black rtv to the cover, let that sit for a hour, then put the cover on BUT do not tighten it down yet, only hand tighten the bolts, then the next day snug them up...

If you tighten the bolts too much or too fast the rtv will squeeze out and leak...

I ran into same problem.. just back burnered the whole project and haven't made it to the oil leak fix yet.. it just happens to be on the passenger side...

I use a wee bit dif approach with the valve covers.
Scrape and sand both head and cover mating surfaces squeeky clean.
straiten mating surface of cover with hammer and a strip of flat bar or on the edge of the work bench..
Wipe both head and cover with brakcleen.
Apply a 1/4' to 5/16" bead of black RTV to the cover channel, make sure to surround the bolt holes.
Carefully lower the cover on the head without smearing the RTV all over the place( i use a couple guide studs or drill bits in the bolt holes)
Run all bolts in alternatly and evenly till hand tight with a socket and extension.
Leave it sit for a couple hours so the RTV has time to set,...torque bolts to soec.
Don't run the engine till the RTV is fully cured (next day is fine).
Your covers are garanteed to never leak again

I remember letting them set for a while the last time a few years ago but forgot about it this time.
I read some guys will bend the injector lines. Has any one wrecked theirs doing this?
It's really not that big of a deal to pull the intake but if I don't have to that's better.
I hate stupid mistakes.

Do that and a oil leak will not be your only trouble.... the inside of the lines will flake off and you will soon be installing new injectors...

x2 dont do it. Don't know about flaking, but you will bend the hell out of em and possibly ruin one or more. It'll take 30 minutes longer to take intake off/on.

Well it looks like Ill be pulling the turbo and intake again. I do have a new cdr ordered if that doesn't fix it it's back into the shop.
Aside from that the motor runs great! I have a long grade going out of town and the egts are 200* cooler than with the old motor. I have to wait until We'd to get it timed.
Is the desired and actual timing setable on the obd1 or is it programmed into the ECM like an obd2?
I'm going to have it set to about -1.5 . -1.9 is pretty loud. I camp a lot and when you fire it up early in the am it wakes up the whole camp ground.

Yep, cleaning the surfaces with brake clean is probably the most important step. Also, blow out the bolt holes of oil and crud.

Well I resealed the valve covers this last weekend and the oil leaks are gone. I just did a 500 mile oil change, fixed an injector return line, installed a ffm filter that's been missing for years and e new standyne pmd with #9 resistor(both from Leroy diesel). It runs GREAT!! I've been commuting 80 miles a day up 2700 ft down back up 1600 ftthen back. Mpg has been14. Not great. I have a Kennedy tune that is supose to call for max fuel and mabye that's my problem. My ip timing is -1.76. The mechanic at my local dealer said the desired and actual timing on my obd1 was set by the emc at 5* and he couldn't change it to 8*. I thought obd1 could be set with the tec2 is

No fuel filter, yikes.

Maybe Kennedy can retune it for better MPG?

I recall using my Tech 2 to set a customers 94 years ago.
