I am curious, There are a lot of different oil filters out there from Fram, Wix, Baldwin, K & N, Napa Gold, etc. I think that Amsoil uses either Wix or Baldwin (I can't remember which) for the 6.5. I assume that Fram is the cheapest least effective. Where do the others rank in effectiveness? I remember seeing the tests done at the place on fuel additives and air filters but I never saw anything on the oil filters.

I've been using the Mobil 1 oil filters. They seem to do a very decent job of controlling soot. At least my informal "what's the stuff on the dipstick feel and look like" tests seems to say so... They are spendy - around $13.

P.S. My other favorite filter is the Fram HP4, which is a racing filter, (NOT to be confused with the 'normal' Fram filters for the 6.5 - just go to the store, and crack open an HP4, and then check the differences. They are substantial) which has specs which just happen to be great for the 6.5. Fits fine, and best of all, only costs around 8-9 bucks. Seems to control soot quite well.

P.P.S. I also think that the K&N filters are OK. A little spendy, also around $13.

Amsoil

Amsoil (Donaldson) is hard to beat. Like guybb said read up about the oil filter test at Bobstheoilguy.com
Very interesting to learn about filters there.

I just went to get a mobil 1 filter and they are $13 at Kragen's. When I was looking I saw that Bosch had filters there as well. The bosch filter' say they filter oil contaminants to 99.9% and the Mobile 1 says it filters to 99.2%. The bosch only cost $6.95.
