oil filter adapter will not come lose - 98 Suburban

The oil filter adapter on the 98 Suburban will not come lose. Somebody must have tightened the shit out of it.
I had my best 1/2" impact on it and it never budged.

I'm kind of scared to get to radical with it. All Ireally need to do is break it off.

Is there a work around to install Lubrication Specialty's Oil cooler kit without removing the adapter?

Possibly a grease zirc like fitting that comes straight out, with a female trhreaded 90?

Dare I try to heat the bolt and let it cool? If it worked fine. If not my O rings would be baked.

Dare I try the 3/4" impact?

This thing is way over 17 lbs torque,

Any ideas?
 
I use a 3/4 drive breaker bar to take them off. Never a problem. You want to replace the o-rings on the adapter anyhow.
 
Definately try it with a breaker bar asan impact has a HIGh chance of breaking that hollow bolt that holds the adapter on. They're tough, but not impact tough. Mine took some persuasion, but a 3 foot bar and a quick yank and it popped loose.
 
You may want to grind the socket down a bit to get a good grip on that shallow bolt head to prevent rounding the hex corners,you'r effed if that happens.

Very good idea there. I also need to get a 6 point 1 3/8 socket

Are there any possibilities of working around it?

The others I took off, zipped right off - no problem

Are you doing this with a cold or hot block? The difference is about 1/4 turn. If it's not dissassembled too far, bring it up to operating temp and make that bolt the first thing you do. I had the same problem when pulling mine both times I've had it off. Additionally, it needed tightened to stop weeping both times after the block warmed up following a cold assembly.
 
I guess I should have started with this part of the project. Maybe I'll postpone this part til I can start and run it up to temp again.

Thanks for the advice. Iplugged the block heater in for 3 hours and it zipped right out
