Just wondering if anyone here has found any good oil cooler upgrade kits? I am looking for new lines and cooler if needed. Like most people with a 6.5 I am getting a little tired of having oil leaks out of those stupid factory lines.

A while back I saw a company that sold a kit that had a larger cooler. It was rather expensive. I can't remember the name of the company though. I think they were located in Canada. I went with the lubricationspecialist kit. Very happy with it.

Does anyone know the part number for that factory bracket that's attached to the motor mount? My bracket is missing, and the install of the Lube Specialist was really a pain without it. I ended up putting in a couple of 1/4" bolts through the motor mount from underneath and using the clamps that come with the kit. Only could get one hose clamped in there (two clamps), so the other one got split 5/8" hose around it and zip-tied to the fastened one. Took me like 12 hours to get it done.

It's a great kit, BTW, worth every penny. I see no need for a larger cooler.

If you do alot of heavy towing the bigger oil cooler would add alot of cooling capacity to the engine. Oil coolers are very effective.

Absolutely. And I don't think you have to worry about overcooling as the engine can control engine temp via coolant T-Stats.

I'd like a larger oil cooler instead of factory size replacement.

So, if the recommended replacement for stock size is the lubrication specialist kit, what does everyone recommend for the bigger size?

I think the company with the bigger cooler is DSG. I have the Lube Specialist kit - very nice kit. I tow 10,000lbs and haven't seen a problem with temps. However, a bigger cooler certainly can't hurt - just not sure if it's absolutely necessary. Guess it depends on cost - if both kits are close in price - and the bigger one (edit) isn't dramatically harder to install, then the choice is obvious. If the price is a lot different, then that's your call.

The page had an article a few years back using the DSG upgraded cooler. It did show temp drop whick also increased oil pressure at operating temp.
I have not seen one using the lube specialist kit but maybe it does the same.
Also it would be easy to make a kit using an Earls cooler and some A N fittings and lines.

If more cooling is needed, I think the best thing would be a bigger cooler, re-located away from the (coolant) radiator. An electric fan could be mounted to the oil cooler, so it wouldn't need to be out in front. This could be done with the tranny cooler too, thereby freeing the radiator of those obstructions & allowing better cooling there too.
-Just my two cents.

I agree. Relocating the oil and the trans cooler to under the bed with fans on them would allow the engine to cool itself better.

I tow about as big as it gets for the 6.5, in place that gets plenty warm 90+F is very common in the South, with 100F days a common occurance as well, the Derale cooler on trans, plus the deep pan, retuned fan clutch, extra 1.5 qt oil with bypass filtration, and no hot events at all with factory grille mounted oil cooler.

FWIW very soon Bill Heath www.heathdiesel.com will be offering a retrofit oil cooler kit, for 6.5 as well.

DSG have the kit with bigger cooler. It looks like Kennedy is selling it on the US side of the border according to the Page. It is there. A lot pricier than the Lubrication Spec kit though.
