OEM cooler line question

Hey guys,

funds are a little short this time of year for me, so after buying some amsoil from
wrecker, I dont have much left over for oil cooler lines.

I called the dealer, and according to VIN the lines needed are 15104803, and 15104800.

so here is what I did: i bought this new old stock line, this one was the 4803: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0178775163&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT

and will be buying the mate to it (15104800) shortly.

I know, factory lines leave something to be desired as far as reliability, but I figured that new OEM is better than used original lines that are leaking, right?

So I am here to ask you fine folks if I still need to buy the block adapters, and if so, which ones?

On rock auto, the connectors listed are 15027502 ac delco, and the dorman equivalent.

if I buy two of these 15027502 connectors, and the 4800 line, will I have everything necessary for new lines?

rock auto does list under the oil cooler tab: ACDELCO Part # 88960976
RETAINER,ENG OIL CLR CONN.

is that just the plastic line holder at the rad. support?

thanks, guys, and sorry that I couldnt support pmdcable.com this go around, I will be sure to buy some more boost fittings come guage time.

TD have a picture here somewhere in the Technical Library on how the block is connected.

RA part no does not have any pictures on it.

Problem is once you take it off, you CANNOT install it correctly again with that clip connectors.

Some people argue, it has lasted all this year why not??? Well, you don't have the factory workers tools to install it properly.

I am not sure if you can replace that clipped connectors with some standard fittings that is threaded?

this is the pic of the dorman 800705, which is supposedly identical to the GM 15027502.

so do I need two of these and the other line, then I am golden?

JMJNet:
I cannot find TD's picture of the cooler lines.

sorry guys, I read over it, and answered my own question. here is the description for the cooler hose connector:

CONNECTOR,ENG OIL CLR HOSE RETAINER CLIP 88960976(BLUE) MUST BE USED W/FITTING

this must mean that the clip is needed for the connector, as it must not have it.

so I need :
15104800
15104803
(2) 88960976
(2) 15027502

unless, what is this? 1530487 (03094215) which just looks to be an o-ring. it is listed under oil cooler seal. I take it that is the one inside the cooler to seal to the new lines?

If you want to be cheap, you don't need the new fittings for the block. Just new o-rings for them. New o-rings for the cooler end also.

are the o-rings at the block the same size as the o-rings at the cooler? so keep the bare fitting, but put a new clip and o-ring in?

Yes just need the O-Rings and the Clip to save on dollars. The crucial part is the clip which potentially gets weakened etc when you remove the hoses. Just make sure that you did not damage the actual fitting when prying the clip out etc. Of course there is always the caveat that the generic copies are slightly different to GM and that putting a Dorman clip in a GM fitting will.... well you get the picture. If it were me for the small price of the clips I would go GM. 99% chance it's all the same, but heck stranger things have happened and it is a critical system. Not sure if the o-rings are the same size on the cooler, I would buy as listed to be sure.

Cheers
Nobby

As Nooby said, that clips, if not installed properly, is the one that has caused many 6.5. So it is a VERY critical part. Make sure it is installed properly plus watch it carefully when driving.

I've done these a few times over the years.
Some I did by pulling the clip and other by threading the fitting out of the block with the clip installed Same thing on reinstallation. I've installed the fitting and then the line. I 've also clipped the fitting to the line - with the O ring oiled - and then installed the fitting to the block.
I don't remember buying new O rings. I thought they came with the lines.

I've never bought new block fittings.

flashback to the napa ads a few years back when the napa guy crawls out of the vehicle, and climbs underneath!

do you think that new block fittings come with o-rings? I might do them too for peace of mind.

When I replaced the lines on my 91 6.2 I tried to get just the o=rings at the stealer[they didn't come with the GM lines @ $75 each]. They didn't stock just the o-ring[could get it special order for $5 per o-ring] They did stock the complete fitting with the o-ring installed and the clip came with it. Other engines used the same fitting.

I'm not sure how quickly you need those. Leroy at pmdcable said he is having machined adapters to be able to re-use your factory cooler. I just spoke with him earlier this week.

in a week or less. dont worry, I have quite a few more rigs to do something with, so not too much for sales lost for pmdcable.com! the 96 is the only one with a kit (leroys) and the 95 GMC (my new purchase, 1600 bucks!) is the only one not leaking. even the 57K original miles 91 6.2L is leaking!
