Found one for sale with transfer case for 1000$. My question is is there any difference between diesel or gasser ? And I assume(never aving had one) the clutch is hyd ? Slave mounted on the bellhousing ? Will a 6.5 Man flywheel work on a 6.2(balance).
I want this for my CUCV.

I believe sometime around 96 they changed from an external slave to an internal slave. And I also believe there is a ration diff between gas/diesel.

A chevy NV4500 doesn't have any difference between gas and diesel application. The only difference between the two are the flywheels.

There is a difference in ratios, and that is determined via the early and later years. 92-94 used lower first gearing, while 95+ used higher gearing.

what is the difference in the flywheels??

I have a 350 sbc flywheel on my 6.2. I had to install a 6.2 ring gear and ,weld a weight on off of a 6.2 flex plate.

i'm pretty sure the 6.2 flywheel will work on the 6.5 and vise versa.

i just went through this.

i have a flywheel from a '82 6.2 and when i changed everything on my 6.5 i checked it all out and it looks like they all would work on either engine.

the Luk numbers on the clutch and pressure plate were the same but couldn't find any numbers that matched on the flywheels though.

the only thing a few diesel NV4500s will have is a damper. I believe only installed in SMF applications. But akdieseldriver is right, 96 is 1st year for internal slave on all GM version NV4500s, and 88 GMC truck is right in the fact that it was just year changes that determined gear ratio, not fuel type.

Well, My CUCV has a TH400 which makes top speed with the 4.56 gears about 60 mph even with 35's. It needs OD. so my choices are th700r4(junk) a 4l80e (expensive and will require a standalone controller also expensive) or convert to an nv4500 which keeps the truck all non electronic and an excellent SHF GTFO truck. I would assume the master off the earlier model truck would work with the slave on the NV4500 ??
