Anyone know how interchangeable 241 parts from different years are? I can't find anyone online that sells more than a part or two for 241's, and all the used cases i'm finding that i can afford are 88-94 (apparently the 95+ is different- another question in itself). So i was thinking of buying the "wrong" 241c to cannibalize. Any thoughts?

From 88 on they are pretty much the same IIRC. The difference was up until 92 the SUBURBAN could be a right hand drop whereas the trucks were left hand. I'm not 100% certain on the interchange, but I haven't seen any dufferences in them. There are 2 different style input shafts for them, a narrow and then a wide bearing for the main shaft. I'll try and find the parts list for you that lists the interchange between them. DODGE also used this case in several versions, and some parts can interchange. The front case half is different between the DODGE and GM in the rotation of the mounting bolts, but internals are similiar.

an interchange list would be perfect! talk about frustrating- between finding hardparts suppliers and used cases that are just a year off, this cheap parts quest is turning into a nightmare that doesn't compare to any euro car parts search in recent memory!

Pretty sure the difference 88-94 and 95-up is the width of the input shaft bearing. The older is wider than the newer.

I ordered a rebuild kit for my 241c from auto zone everything in the kit was right until I got to the input shaft bearing which was almost double the proper width. I think I still have the extra wide bearing laying around somewhere. Couldn't really return the kit since I had already used half the parts out of it when I discovered the problem. Ended up haveing to locate the right bearing myself and get a refund for it from autozone. For whatever reason they couldn't get the right bearing.
