Anyone have one of these?

exhaust-bypass.jpg

Basically, it is an electrically-controlled exhaust bypass. When you activate it, it bypasses all exhaust past the downpipe to the air. I'll bet it is quite loud, and probably would make you deaf after long usage, but it would certainly eliminate any back pressure!

Wheee!

Mines loud enough as is with a straight through muffler, having it dump under the floorboard would be beyond obnoxious.

Diesel Pro had one similar on a DMAX they were running & demonstrated it on one of my pass through visits there about a year or so ago; they called it SED, Smoke Extruder Device, controled by boost, when enabled X boost would open it up and bypass, and yes it was loud.

Tim, that's funny! I think you could hook up one of those Auber gauges to boost, and when it hits a pre-set number - wap! bypass-exhaust! That would be really cool!

The question is, did it help things in terms of power?

The downturn could be unbolted and you could run a straight pipe out the back, then it wouldn't be so bad.
Those have been around for muscle cars for at least 30 years :smile5:

Hi Tookie,

Yes, I actually did know that, but I haven't seen one for quite awhile, and it put a smile on my face, as I never actually thought about putting one on the Tahoe. It would be cool.

www.summitracing.com They have your exhaust cutouts. I am sure jegs has them too. A buddy of mine put them on his 340 dodge p/u not that imressive to me. He has true dual exhaust with the cut outs on both. SO when he opens them exhaust now has 4 places to exit instead of two not quite as loud as I thought it would be. Of course on our 6.5's it would be a different story since we got only one pipe. As for noise I just ran with just a down pipe for a week. Yea it was loud but not deafining. The drone was the worst part of it right at 2200 rpms.
