Pretty sure the rapping noise I have is coming from me ol' vacuum pump still uselessly spinning in my engine compart.. Sounds like a piece of the plastic grill is loose and rattling.

What are my options since I don't have the coin for Heath for a few months... I already have a TM.

Will I just throw a low vacuum code, or will it limp mode me? I'd rather not have my SES light on.

You won't code for no vac S engine is only one that codes indirectly for no vac, which uses vac to operate EGR system, and no vac sets a EGR system fault; just get/build a TM for now back it to about 8 psi boost and you should not set a hi boost code

It shouldn't throw a code on your truck...

The only thing I *might* get worried about is the pump pulley throwing the serpentine belt off....the odds of that happening are slim - but a worn out pump can cause it to happen....

I have a TM... I was under impression if I just got the shorter belt and removed the vacuum pump Then I would throw a code, WG Solonoid.

Yeah, I keep a spare belt w/me, but wont do me any good if the vacuum pump siezes... and it's not getting better on its own, thats for sure....

No, not with a F vin

Great news, I've been spinning this thing around with me for months for nothing...

I remember years ago when my WG solonoid crapped out it coded me for low boost... Diagnosis pointed to WG solonoid, replaced it, and had boost and SES went off.

I was thinking about that in memory a little backwards, the computer will not see an abnormal condition, and I'll be fine.

Perhaps tomorrow... I have heard a lot of topics about 100" or 99.5" belts. ANy fresh opinions? Gonna hit the searches now.

IIRC I use a 99.5" belt, grab a few different ones and return what you don't use.

Removed it.

Easy job under an hour, removed upper fan shroud, 3 10mm bolts, access thru vacuum pump pulley.

99.5" belt, perfect, a little tight, thats good, will loosen into range, even if it doesn't its fine.

Did seem quieter on initial startup for sure, my noise is still there, I have about 1/4" of in-out play on my powersteering pulley, and it whines, so I suspsect that is the noise.

Started it without belt, and quiet and smooth as can be (forum paranoia has me worried about harmonic balancer)

I replaced crank pulley last month as PM and old seemed in good shape, so I'm comfortable with my HB until late summer when I think I will fluidampr it.

Need to focus on that powersteering pump now.

FWIW, it seems 96+ w/standard 100a alternator have stock 101" belt, but the 99.5 for vacuum pump delete works perfect, with a tad bit of room for stretch/expansion. Not hard at all to get on the tensioner.

My theory is if you fix 10 things that weren't completely failed yet, and it prevents 1 break down on the road, then all 10 jobs were a huge success.

Thing is, you will never know what you PREVENT, so that makes every detail of working on your rig a success.

My theory anyhow. And it works so far.
