Have a 1983 CUCV with the 6.2, changed the lift/fuel pump and now it wont start. Filled fuel filter with fuel, what else should we try? :mad2:

Yea, I'm thinking you got some Air in there. Check to make sure you're getting Power at the Pump as well.

The 83 is a mechanical lift pump.

The only way to do this easy is like this.

Unplug the large red wire from the IP to stop the fuel solenoid from actuating.

Open the bleed screw on the filter and crank the engine until air free fuel comes out.

Close the bleeder and plug the power back to the IP.

Glow the thing and crank it. If you have cranked it otherwise you have air in the pump and the injectors.

Not a biggy but will take a little cranking to get it up and going. Normally these will prime right up and dont need a lot of fussing.

Let us know.

I had issues with my mech lift pump leaking fuel out of the weep hole and letting air in, so the IP would loose it's prime.

It was a pain to spin the motor over until the fuel got back to the IP. The batteries usually died before the truck would start and stay running. I went with an electric LP from a 6.5 and the proper O-ring tubing connectors on each end, and put it where the mech lift pump used to be. Truck fires up much better now than it did with the mech lift pump.

It's a good upgrade.

I have mine wired into the fuel shut off circuit so when the key is on the LP has power. I know it's probably not the best idea having the LP wired to key power, but it's temporary for now. Once it gets on the road i'll work up a setup like the early 6.5s with the OPS to power it via a relay.
