Howdy folks!

Well, as always, mechanical things will bring you back to the fold of old friends on the forum...

The suburban is wanting a little bit of love here lately. Today's episode brings us to taking the wife out for dinner, and then an impromptu stop at the auto parts store on the way home to ensure safe passage.

Pulled into parking space tonight while on the phone and the brakes felt a little bit "mushy." Had dinner, came out, and backed out of the spot, put it in drive, moved forward. I had no speedometer reading, and the ABS light came on. Logic said to me at the time that the speed sensor on the rear of the tranny must be messing up. Drove across the street (by this time all had returned to normal - speedo back and light off) to pickup parts.

Came back (found it was the wrong part). Went back to parts store to exchange for the right one (and it was the first sensor I had originally looked at.) Verified the sensor was the one causing the issue by leaving it unplugged and drove down the street. No speedo, and the ABS light came on. Plugged in sensor, all returned to normal, but it happened again shortly after that, and not again.

So, it seems like an intermittent problem (but becoming more problematic).

In looking at the diagram on alldatadiy.com it seems the next link in the chain is the VSSB. I did resolder the board last year for changing the tire size, so, at some point, I will look at that when my eyes are more open than they are now.

Any one else ever had this, or am I the first to chronicle such an issue?

P.S. - going to add a new to me 6.5 service van to the driveway maybe soon.

Thanks all!

Rear speed sensor on the transmission. That is the output speed sensor/ vehicle speed sensor. seen it quite frequently. On 2wd vehicles its on the backleft side of the transmission and on 4wd its on the back top of the transfer case.

I am thinking a bad rear speed sensor would confuse the transmission controlling and cause it to go into a fail-safe mode with high line pressure since it cannot sense slip. How did the trans act with the sensor unconnected and while messing up?
