I am about 99.9% positive there was no screen in the bottom of my filter the last time I changed it...what risk am I taking running it like this?

I gonna order me a new one...just curious might that ruin my IP like that?

TIA

Not to worry; instead of sweating that, just install a 10 micron filter inline right before the lift pump. It'll catch most water and big chunks, and protect the LP . I like the see through bowl and water drain on the filter. Something like this; Not to disrespect any vendors here, just an example of the many available out there.

Spin-On Gasoline and Diesel Filters

Once you've installed the top cap inline, changing filter cartridges is simple—just spin off the old cartridge and spin on the new one. Filters are good for removing dirt, rust, sand, and scale from leaded and unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel, including fuels with ethanol. Filters have a die cast zinc top cap and nitrile seals. They include a 10-micron, pleated-paper filter cartridge. Max. pressure is 50 psi; max. temperature is 150° F. Connections: NPT female.
Optional water-removal cartridge removes water and particles as small as 10 microns.

Thanks, I've been noticing a little tiny bit of hesitation (I guess the vocabulary in diesel terms is fish biting) give me time I'm learning LOL, at very light throttle & it does not happen consistently. All I have to do is give it a RC Hair more go pedal & it disapears.

I still need to measure the LP output, on my list of things to do...my truck is just about to turn 197K & is running like a TOP...hope it stays this way, I'm thrilled with it so far!

Thanks again & have a SAFE & Happy New Years!

Welcome aboard. Fishbite is more like the engine shuts down violently, then starts up again. Scared the cr*p out of me the first time. Usually from the PMD failing. Many threads about that.

I'm basically cheap. Everybody seems to love the Racor filter, but it's pricey. Here's another one, first the whole unit, then the replacement cartridge;

Great thanks for the links, I'm all about shopping & comparing products & prices b4 I make a purchase...

I think my LP is factory, at least buy looks of it and the corrosion on the fittings. Prolly gonna change it out, but no need to fix what ain't broke, but when I do change it, that will be a great opportunity to consider adding the pre filter.

What benefit does the pre filter provide?
