Have a 1996 Z71 with no brakes and no power steering.

That happens suddenly, no codes, just happens.

The serpentine is OK, no leaks, just it seems liquid is not moving in the power steering reservoir when turning the wheel.

I think the power steering pump is shot, but what I wonder is, why did that happen so suddenly ?
Someone experienced the same trouble ?

Any opinion ?

Again, plugged or kinked return line could cause this. Fluid has no where to go.

In addition to the above, try this: Turn and hold wheel on stop and jam on brakes. Loose pump pulley or tensioner will show up esp. if engine is revved.

Mine was doing that every now and then - more so when I first cranked up in the AM. I removed the return line from the PS pump, stuck it in a bucket, cranked the truck and started pouring fresh synthetic fluid in the PS reservoir until I had fresh fluid coming out the return. The fluid that was in there was blackish-red, old crap.

Hasn't happened since.

The 2 low pressure hoses. They have clamps ,not a crimped on tube and fitting

:iagree:
Have someone pump the brakes and turn the steering wheel as you flush, to fully purge the system. I did it before rebuilding the hydroboost.

To check for a broken ps pump shaft, iirc, disconnect serpentine belt & see if pulley will pull out some. Belt when in place will tend to hold pulley in place even tho shaft broken.
