No brake lights

My emergency flashers and turn signals work. I get power from the brake switch when I press the pedal (I can hear it click up on the firewall somewhere). I've verified power with a meter to the brake tap-in place where the tow brake controller used to be. I haven't really started troubleshooting yet.

Do they use the same filaments in the bulbs for the flashers/turn signals, and brake lights?

I hate the thought of digging into this thing. There is a plug in the bed for a 5th wheel, and a plug at the back for a regular trailer. Plus, there are wires for a brake controller that is no longer installed.

Okay, okay. I'll go out and look for myself. ...thought someone might know off the top of their head if the truck uses the same filament for brake as for turn.

Does your third light work on the cab? I can't comment on the filament thing but I had no brake lights but the third light worked a while back & it turned out to be the wires where the electric brake controller was spliced into the wiring harness had come apart. Mine was spliced in just before the fuse block under the hood. Not sure if that is standard procedure though.

Hope this helps.

yes they do use the same bulbs iv had so many break light problems it aint even funny iv got a bad board in the drivers side and some days it works and some days it dont

There's a brake light solenoid in the fuse box, under the hood......maybe it went bad?

It's easy enough to check.

...didn't know about that. I'll check it. I can hear something clicking up on the firewall when I press the brake pedal. I opened up the Scotchlock tap for the tow brake controller, and it gets power when I step on the pedal.

I have a 4-volume shop manual set, but it doesn't seem to have any wiring diagrams in it at all.

It wasn't the solenoid, but there is a big honkin' fuse in that box under the hood that had blown. I hope it was just a short from those wires for the brake controller that are cut off and not taped. I guess I need to buckle down and buy a brake controller.

I don't know what I'd do without this place.
