No 2nd gear or reverse

A friend has a rig the same as mine in my sig and today he lost 2nd gear and reverse. What would cause that?

If it's a 4L80E, then check (trans fuild level and color first) electrical connectors and grounds.

I can't remember which is which, but R shares a shift solenoid with a forward gear IIRC...

Im pretty sure R is 2nd gear.

I never thought of that, I'll see what we can find.

needs to be in tranny section-how about manual 2nd. 1-2 solenoid energizes in reverse not manual or O/D 2nd. 2-3 is de-energized in both. other common is 3-4 shift valve.
