I had a hard time finding specific information on these tires for trucks like ours prior to purchasing, hopefully I can shed some light for people in the market.
The Nitto Trail Grappler is an all-season mud tire with big, beefy lugs. They are M+S rated, and available in many sizes and load ranges, including a 10-ply load range E.
A little info on my truck: 4x4, automatic trans, open rear diff, minimal mods, more or less stock power.
A little info on its use: 90% daily driving (50/50 around town/highway), 5% towing <3000lbs, 5% hauling <1000lbs.
A little info on me: moderately heavy right foot, 14mpg combined if that tells you anything, no burnouts or anything like that.
I got about 32,000 miles out of them before I pulled them for a new set of tires. The wear was fairly even, granted my alignment was off for the last 5,000 miles or so. One thing that I did have an issue with was lots of cracking between the lugs on the tread. Not deep cracks, but small cracks. The sidewalls still had the little titties on them, so I was never worried about the integrity of the tires. Some guys said it was normal, some said it was strange.
Performance in the snow was good, even when the tires were less than half tread. You could tell they were M/T's, but certainly not "crappy" by any means.
Wet performance was good, never felt like they were walking around on the road when conditions got wet.
They were actually really quiet too. I had Cooper AT3's before these, and these tires were not much louder than the Coopers. I made several long drives with these tires and never felt like they were droning or excessively loud.
So to wrap it up, nice tires, good overall performance, pretty good longevity for a M/T, definitely a good looking tire too. Would recommend.
