Couple of minor issues. Doesn't run cause the crankcase is full of a black sludge. And batteries are dead.

So I used a hand crank chain come a long to pull it on the trailer. Note to self: don't wear a black shirt to hide the dirt in the 100 degree plus sun! I then towed it home with the 1993 GM-olet pickup.

I need to start looking for a turbo and a engine... Least this one has a pre-blown-up engine. Suspect coolant in the oil due to high level.

Wow. I'd like to find one of those for myself. Mine has the rust and I'm starting to think I'll never win the battle.

I know where you can find a turbo.

Inside:

Turbo full of blowby oil. Crankcase had like 12 quarts drain pan plus 2.5 GAL bucket of coolant/oil mix when I drained it out. It took hours to drain the sludge out.

Oil filter with 'grease' thick oil/coolant sludge.

Nasty stuff! Your turbo may be salvageable if it doesn't have abunch of play. Just take it off and drain it.

I like the tan two tone! I want to get mine done w/ that color combo after I get my Rusty Rockers changed

WarWagon, you're a glutton for projects. I'd like to be there for the engine removal and reinstall. I'm just the next state over. Winter is best ;-)

Hmmmm... :skep: I can read part numbers in the engine oil and some chunks are too big to fit out the oil drain plug hole.

Looks like this engine will have to come out - no hope of 'just' a head gasket or cracked head.

If it was run long enough to turn the oil to the almost impossible to drain sludge all the bearings are gone anyhow. Turbo may be salvageable .
Thinking of another Boyce engine?

Boyce was my ace card running the numbers to do this project. I have enough parts around now to see if this block is good and buy some parts like bearings etc.

Intake manifold has a little pebble size debris in it. Valve seat or upper ring land is what I thought it could look like/came from. I suspect it dropped a valve and hammered it into the head and through the piston. Not tested debris it to see if it is magnetic.

Engine runs with a miss and clank - like it has something in the cylinder. :nonod: Really hurt bad and still runs - but not likely for very long.

Arrow in manifold shows metal debris and more was in the #8 runner. Yes, Run away was a concern but just a thin layer of muck wiped out before startup.

How silly...
DTC's in computer:
DTC 91 - #1 Cylinder Balance Fault
DTC 92 - #2 Cylinder Balance Fault
DTC 93 - #3 Cylinder Balance Fault
DTC 98 - #8 Cylinder Balance Fault

Least a DB2 wouldn't turn on a light for something as simple as a broken piston.

What? No guesses as to what the noise is from before tear-down?
