If anyone is unfamiliar with this setup, refer to the link I provided, below. In a nutshell, the dodge flip out tow mirrors fit nicely on our body style of trucks (88-98) in terms of body lines. The problem is that to make them fit, there is drilling of our doors to make them work. Not everyone is bothered by this, but I was. I hate the idea of drilling anything in my truck, really. Mostly because I live in the salt belt.

I have been speaking with a marketing member at the US Auto Parts Corporate office about this for several weeks. I made a suggestion of taking the GM bolt pattern and putting it on these dodge mirrors because I believed there was a market for them. This will make these mirrors a bolt-on, instead of forcing the GM guys to drill holes. He has spoken with their supplier and has a quote, along with a minimum order requirement.

In all this, I am trying to get an idea of how strong this market would be for a bolt-on part and what the pricing should be set at. My initial feeling on this is that the price needs to come in about the same as the current dodge mirrors or people might be willing to take a chance on the drilling, right?

So, I see a market for this and I would be willing to commit to being customer #1, assuming the price point is right, for the ability to bolt these on and not have to drill. I need your input on this, though, as a forum. This is a huge resource to learn about the desire for these mirrors. Help me out, guys and gals. What are your thoughts on this idea and on this possible product line? I'm not really asking for commitments to buy at this point (and I am not gaining in this venture, financially, at all), but am just trying to help give feedback on what I have taken to them as what I believe to be a good product.

I prefer the look of the Chris Cam mirrors that Leroy sells. My point is that they will need to have the options that the Chris Cam mirrors at a competitive price. If I remember correctly, the plain mirrors [no power adjust, no heat, and no led lighting were $180 give or take a couple bucks. Loaded were somewhere around $240.

there nice mirrors, I just wish they didn't vibrate so much. I have a set and they give great visibility, but at highway speeds they do shake quite a bit.

I'd probably buy a set, if the price is reasonable. Been looking at ones with power, heat and led on Ebay. Along with reading various threads on the mod. Right now I have clip on mirrors and tow an RV trailer once n a while. I'll never figure out why GM puts crap mirrors on the trucks when they know odds are a dually will be towing, hauling or a daily driver.

Ferm, are you talking about the dodge mirrors, or the ones that Leroy sells? I didn't know he sold any and didn't find any on his site. I had been waiting on a price for the dodge style, but never heard anything, so I just figured they were not available to him.

Either way, I'm still pursuing this GM base with dodge exterior combo as long as I can do so.

That's what I thought you were referring to. Love the mirrors, but can't get past the base. Just loses all the "bulk" look to me once it drops down to the small pivot portion after the two horizontal bars.

IMO you would be better off making an adapter if there is room (can't remember) and selling it. Let the customer source there own mirror??. I was thinking about that when I did my first set. Someone before me had put them on his truck and talked of making an adapter, but that fell through.
If you like I can look into it again.

I can get the dodge mirrors also.

Are you thinking of an adapter that would be totally hidden? Man, if it prevents the drilling, then I'm all for it, as long as it looks like it was from the factory like that (or hidden).

Well, have not looked yet, but seems like there would be room, maybe not? Need to look at a set. I'll yank mine off tomorrow (Great white I just set you up for a joke).

OK bad news. An adapter would make the mirror sit off the door 3/16" at a minimum. Other than that it could be done, but I would not like that on mine. Only other option would be to machine the Dodge mirror base to account for the adapter. Not a very easy thing to do and not very realistic.
So your back to having them built or just drill three holes. The holes obviously are not visable and it works just fine, but I'm like you I would rather not have to drill aftermarket holes if I can.

I painted the holes after I drilled them.

No muss, no fuss, no rust.....

I was afraid of that. Can you post a photo of the inside of the base, if you don't already have the mirrors back on?

Yeah, great white, I know what you're saying about painting the holes and such, but I'd still rather avoid it altogether if I can.

Allready back on.
The thing about an adapter is, it would take the guess work out of where to drill the holes. On one of my trucks I missed and had to wollow out the holes alittle. No big deal.

Studs go into an aluminium support. They can be changed out for shorter ones if needed.
