Hi I’m Jtr been reading this forum for awhile I have a 96 ext. cab 4x4 , been broke for awhile, fiixed all the codes, that were stored except the Ess I can’t reset that one , does it cook the ecu? Using a tech 2 , and yes I started with the throw parts at it first.only clear codes if I had replaced the parts.. like a idiot I didn’t write down the codes as I went, , then I found the forum , a wealth of information ,and a lot of reading haven’t found anything about the Ess hence my question.. thanks Jt

I lost oil pressure cooling lines leaking, got it shutdown, towed home. Oil was everywhere, looked like front seal had gone,as well replaced everything, then didn’t have fuel ,?just turn over ,put new primer on but it seemed only worked when it wanted. Replaced ops, bled system getting fuel to cylinders also had leak between ip and filter replaced line, reassembled no codes, no leaks no start.. going crazy, then found out that my budget price code reader was not up to talking back to ecu borrowed tech 2 , been going in circle's for far too long didn’t want to admit I might be in over my head, but I have worked on John Deere, cat,and multiple other brands dump trucks, been wrenching awhile, my truck is first year of computer every thing, my Son bought me new scanner covers all Chevys he said, but didn’t do csp relearn, had to o download this op. So paid ins. And, doesn’t go to 96. Starts at 97 email and complain, they said they would work on that, it would come in update be patient

The only ESS that exists in the 6.2/6.5 world is the Engine Speed Sensor- a component that went away by time the ds4 was in use.
That ESS as a shut down is incorrect for this platform.

Due to the oil loss scenario - first thing I would check is oil flow and pressure at the oil hose that feeds to the turbo. That is the end of the oil circuit so that’s where GM says to verify it when in question.

Verify what AKDD said above and add a clear tube out the ip return line in place of the black rubber one. It’s 1/4” diameter about 5 to 6 inches long in an upside down “U” shape. You can get clear line that will Last a few years at any hardware store, or from fuel-line.com and it should last many years. Watch that line for a clean & uninterrupted flow of fuel. No bubbles while cranking or running. One small pea sized bubble trapped in it is normal.

Please fill out the signature line with year make model and all modifications.
