Hi all
A couple weeks ago I put in 8 new injectors. All of them were pop tested all within specs of 2100 . I use to get 18 to 18.5MPG now I’m getting 16 to 16.5 MPG why is that? I thought new injectors would give me better not worst MPG. I drive exactly the same way and the same miles to go to work .
Thanks
Dan

This is after how many tanks? It may take a few tanks till they wear in a little. I would change the fuel filter as well if you didn't do it. Did you get the old injectors tested to see if they were bad or what the difference is in pop pressure? If you have a slight clog in the tank sock/filter or your LP is starting to go you will also see some economy loss.

Hi Rodd
Ho I didn’t know there was a break-in period for injectors. Maybe 2 tanks full. No I did not change the fuel filter. I haven’t got the old injectors tested yet. I will do a LP test this weekend. Seem weird that the MPG drop Wright after the new injectors were put in.

What injectors are you using? An original Bosch or Stanadyne or Delphi? or copycats like Herzog or Medallion?

I've read that Heath recommends a double dose of SAE-30 for lube for injector breakin. There are moving parts in each injector, so it would make sense that after a few thousand clicks a piece they may loosen up a tad.

I wonder if the pop pressure changes once they 'break in'??

Please tell us what kind of truck you have, any details, modifications. Is there ANYTHING else you have touched in the last two tanks? Change tires, oil, t-stat, clean the radiator, ect...

nothing at all in the last two tanks Accept I’m not using diesel kleen +acceted injector cleaner I think that what its call because this injector are new I’m I wrong ?

Put in like 3 quarts of Non-Detergent SAE30 to a full fuel tank, then later on just put in 1 quart to 20 gallons. Or you can use TCW3 2-stroke oil in half those amount. When did you put on the homemade TM and have you adjusted it all lately or do you have a boost gauge?

I put on the TM a while back. When I did the injector I removed the bracket off the turbo and left the adjusting nut alone didn’t want to have to readjust the boost level. I do have boost gauge. Im running 5 to 6 LB of boost @2100 RPM and 75 mph is that too much?
Im not sure but would the gas station gone with their winter fuel yet it is getting cooler here in Saskatchewan?

Is this break in period due to ultra low sulfer diesel fuel? I too just replaced my injectors but down here we still have sulfer rich fuel.

I was told when the Mech set my pop pressure's,, that they will settle down a tad, after a few 100 miles,, in that my pop was set at 2200,,, so after a while they settle down to around 2150 or so.
But with the additives you were using,, then stopped, that could cause the lack of mileage. I'd ask about the winter blend also,, as that kill's mileage.
