Hey im new to the site. I will be buying my first diesel here in the next few months. Im wantin a 06 duramax 2500. Im wantin to buy a tuner. I have no idea what to get. I have heard alot about ppe and edge. I want something thats the easiest on the truck and I want a tune that i can black smoke like no other

First, welcome!

As for a tuner:

You really have to have a certain goal on what you want to do with the truck.

I'm running EFI Live. It is the ultimate tuner, but, it's not for everybody! Take's a small learning curve for some people. If you can't turn on a computer you really don't need it.

The Edge will do you good with the built in gauges and the adjustable on the fly feature.

Just browse the different product's website and see what fit's you best.:)

thats an understatement.

If you dont know how a diesel works and how to use a computer then its not for you.

But if you have the drive and determination as well as patience to figure it out and take things slow, it will not let you down.

The edge is good but has had some issues with using communication and thus making the engine and gauge cluster do wierd things and eventually shutting the motor down. This means you have to remove it and send it back.

Dont worry edge has a great customer service, even if your 2 year warrenty is up they will sell you a new or refurbished one cheap.

The egdes built in gauges and shift on the fly is very nice.

The PPE standard is also very good too. But you will want a set of gauges to monitor things.

There really arent any other tuners to consider when it comes down to it.

If you are wondering what else to do a 4" downpipe(turbo) back exhaust will help out too.

An intake is not necessary, stock duramax intakes flow perfect up to 500hp and the filtration is unmatched.

A transgo Jr. will make sure your ally can hold the power the PPE throws at it and it is a cheap and easy to install mod.

hope this helps, have fun. Theres some great vendors on here too just shoot them a PM for prices.

Your exactly right!

I was looking at it from the perspective of getting a tune already made for your needs and just loading it into the truck.

I'll be honest, I was as lost when I got the box in. I was asking myself, "What do I do?"

If your looking to do your own tuning, which is why a lot buy EFI Live, it is a total different ballgame. But, with the help of the folk's here you can ask all the question's you need to!
I'm actually doing some tuning right now, I can't guarantee my truck won't blow up when I load it though! :D
