Hey guys,

I have ran onto a 96 K2500HD 6.5L 5spd 4wd ECLB. it is dark green with tan lower, and tan interior. (jrsavoie, dont you need these doors? they are not perfect, but they appear rust free on 1st inspection) it is closing in on 300K miles. It was my neighbors son's rig, and he fashions himself a weekend cowboy, and I believe he works construction to feed his horse habit, so a little rough around the edges, but still not too bad of a rig.

it has a goodwrench motor in it, and I believe he said that the motor was installed before he bought it (need to talk to him, but I think it was at around low 100K for miles when he got it)
he did just dump 3 grand getting his inj. pump rebuilt within a year ago, and it has a pair of Bridgestone dueler at revos (245/75r16) near new up front. near wore out rubber out back.

good chrome bumpers with only minor dings (not show truck worthy, but DD worthy) and an OEM receiver hitch.

the only body damage I saw on a quick inspection is that the door caught on the drivers side, so in he went with a prybar! it is bent for clearance, but not too horrible and it looks reversible. grille is shot too

he was a heavy smoker, so the interior is mostly wrote off.

and now, for the reason it is available: the 5 speed gave up the ghost, and it is bad! It will kick and grunt in neutral, put it in fourth, then try for neutral again, and it will still try and pull itself, put it in reverse and back to neutral, it will release, basically major carnage, only will be used for parts. wont go into any other gears.

for the miles, it has zero blowby at idle, (at the fillcap of course) he claims it doesn't burn oil, but it was close to add, maybe he was closing in on oil change time.
Basically we have looked at it twice, it has dead cold started ok, if one cycles glows twice and it goes no matter what.(one cycle, it almost goes but starts slowing down cranking wise, so we wait a bit and try again) it sat for about 1 week between starts. one day about freezing, one 60 degrees. (yes, we got over 60 on saturday! gotta love Kansas) it does have new batts, but the connections dont look awesome. The airbox looked like the filter has always been installed properly, well seated, etc. turbo is oily.

we offered him 750, he wants 1K. should we give him the 1K or haggle down to at least 900? he seems fairly set on the price, and he is losing money, so I dont want to insult him too bad.

Engine with IP is worth the $1000. Rest of the truck is free. 2 Front tires should justify the extra $250...

Interiors are not that hard to completely gut to the bare cab metal and swap with a rust bucket that has a good one. Seats carpet and headliner is all you need and should be a cake walk.

So are you buying for parts or are you buying and looking for a 5 speed and interior?

Thought of the transfer case being the issue?

I am mainly thinking of buying it for parts. the trans will only slide into 4th and reverse, so I am thinking that it is the trans. I really only want the shifter boot, as the one isnt complete on the 1999 otherwise, I dont care much about the rest, as the color doesnt match anything else (tan) we have two tans, but they are both the 88-94 dash style.

well, that kind of backfired, bought the 95 RCLB for parts http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?27634-800-dollar-weekend-score! and then yesterday the guy takes the 750 offer. never thought he would, but he did.

oh well, dad said he would pay for it and I can pay him back over time, so he cut the check yesterday. I was hoping to blow what little I had left on a fluidampr. looks like I will be trying for some more hours at work! it sucks to be a broke college student with a pickup habit. :D

now i got enough engines to hold one back to play with, and still getting all rigs on the road. now which engine, IDK! :D
