I have a flywheel(man trans) from a 1993 6.5TD. Will it work on an 86 6.2 ? The 6.5 has one piece Rear main seal, the 6.2 has a two piece.

There is no difference in the bolt pattern etc. between the engines. Flex plate for a 1986 6.2 will work on a 1993 and 1995 and vice versa even with the different rear main seals. Man trans should be the same.

That's what I thought but Bill H said he thought they were different. Something about the mounting flange but he sounded sketchy on it . Auto Parts lists different part # between the 93 6.5TD Solid flywheel and the 86 6.2 Solid Flywheel. Now I'm really confused but it seems to me you should be right. Years ago when GM stopped selling 6.2 Goodwrench motors and started selling 6.5's instead and told everyone they would be a direct replacement for a 6.2. Of course we all know the inj lines wouldnt fit anyway from an older 6.2 to a 6.5.

The question has me thinking of the 454 Chevy BB. Corect me if Im wrong its been a few years since I messed with them. On a CBB 454 you would think a flywheel or HB would work from a 396, 427, 402....ect but the 454 was balanced diferently. It might have only been certain years??
That may be the difference in the 6.2 and 6.5 #s you looked up?

The plot thickens...Peninsular diesel says no problem...So who the heck is right ?? I don't want a broken crank to save 150$ on using the wrong flywheel....:suicide:

How did I miss that. Cool. I thought it seemed stupid that it wouldn't work. Parts book probably shows different parts because one is LD and one is HD but obviously they will interchange and I would bet the one in the 93 is HD. I know it weighed a ton When I swapped it to the new motor.
