Need some engine harness tips

Close to losing what's left of my marbles. Been fighting problems in my engine harness since buying my truck almost two years ago. Kept getting error codes 13, 17, and 18 for fuel solenoid and optical sensor faults. Thought I had it tracked down to a bad I/P - replaced it and still had the codes. :mad2:

After climing around and checking the harness, I got the codes to go away when I got into the harness connector at the rear of the block. Seemed like a couple of wires were making bad connections, I bubba-fixed-it with a couple of small finishing nails jammed in the back of the connector to help the male and femal ends meet up. Worked great - thought all was behind me! But...

Last October started a really bad oil leak. After much time cleaning and checking for the source, would have sworn it was coming from the driver's side valve cover gasket. Took the top of the engine apart, put back together, now I not only had a leak but those damned error codes came back. :wtf: Finally got oil leak taken care of today - was oil cooler line, but at wits end on these codes.

I went through and cleaned every ground at the start of this saga, and plan on doing again. Would greatly appreciate any thoughts and ideas, and if anyone has a spare harness lying around, I'd be willing to try it.

Thanks for the chance to vent.

GM\Stanadyne released a new teflon-insulated silvered-wire crimped and soldered inj pump harness because the '94-'95-'96 version harnesses were poorly-crimped - most ip vendors can get the harnesses - used to be ~$35bucks - the main engine harness, which connects to the PCM harness amongst all those connectors back at the firewall, will also need to be checked for intermittent wiring connections resulting from rips, tears, shreds, poor crimp, oxidation, corrosion, etc

Thanks for the tip. I bought the I/P from Pensacola Diesel, will call them Monday to check. Was there a tech/service bulletin to reference, or part number?

The main engine harness is available from Ma General.
I have replaced these before and after many miles and time they do get pretty nasty looking.

The little pins and sockets get corroded and can ne a nightmare to work on.

Try using some dielectric grease on the pins and plug the main connector back into the harmess. (larger of the ones at the rear of the engine)

The new harness is about $300 but if yours is toast it could be $$ well spent.

Best

Robyn

I'm confused - big difference between $35 and $300. Are we talking the same thing?
