GF's 2005 Nissan altima 2.5S has 110K miles on it and I am wondering what maintenence need done. I figure I'll search the web too but I trust everyones opinion here. I know of alot of foreign vehicles needing things like timing belts. Also could it need spark plugs? I know nothing about the car mechanically besides the rotors are trashed and it uses oil

She is currently driving a BIG white Dmax around :drive: while I put all new brakes and rotors on her car. She said she might not want her car back since she's been driving the truck for 2 weeks. PLEASE HELP before i never get my truck back!

It seems that they have timing chains, so no worries there. I'd look in the manual for parts, but I'd definitely replace the fuel filter if it has one, plugs and give it a thorough inspection.

I'm just not sure what to expect to go out. I can't find a fuel filter so it must just have a tank sock style rig. I'll check into the plugs and wire situation.

Thanks for the advice, glad to hear it has a timing chain. Got the front rotors turned today and bought raybestous pads and found 2 newer front tires. Now for the nasty yellow head lights!

Plugs and wires - don't just buy any brand of plug, stick with oem type

PCV - if it has one

Coolant flush and thermostat

Tranny flush

Drive belt

In my book the 100k mark is kinda a starting over point for any vehicle.

A quick look around and here's your Sweetie's fuel filter Tanner.

"The fuel filter is located inside the fuel pump on a 2005 nissan altima. The fuel pump is under the back seat. You must remove the bottom cushion on the driver side. Before removing the fuel pump you must remove the negative battery cable and relieve fuel pressure. trouble with filters hesitation in starts could be some bogging and when acceleration poor fuel output but it depends on what ur car is doing?some of these same symptoms could be duel to idle air conrol valve controls idle and hesitation in acceleration"

Well for a 4 banger it is pretty peppy and can spin the tires with 1/2 pedal, I think it's good there so I might put that maintenance on the back burner.

Just lined up the farm trucks this morning and started checkin front ends and other normal wear items for winter service, looks like I am gonna be busy. I'm up to 4 front end rebuilds so far.

Don't these have the pre-cats in the manifolds that break up and take the engine out? And in the process pumps oil on the hot cat from a popped rod and burns the car down....

:???:

IDK about that but its made in japan so i wouldnt doubt it. Are you sayin it has a cat type set up in the exhaust manifolds before the actual cat, I might look into that. Sounds like it could be serious.

Precats are in the manifold so when they break up particles get thrown into the engine through the exhaust valve. Just like valve grinding compound they cause engine wear and high oil consumption. If the parts are big enough the rod breaks and oil from the ventilated block makes a warranty claim an insurance claim...

May be an ECU flash to correct the AF ratio and provide longer life.

The throttle plate screws do need attention as they are known to back out and go through the engine ruining it. I think there is a factory kit out to replace them and stake the new ones.

Easier to talk her into trading it in...

She just bought it before we started dating and she wont drive anything but nissan cars. She has it in her mind that they are better than all other cars and she is as stubborn as me so I doubt she will easily change her mind. It would be like me not having a 6.5 or 5 in my yard.

You are correct, they have this problem and hopefully the aftermarket has the solution.

Maybe spend the time on your 6.5's and let her 'better than other cars' show it's true colors... :hihi:

It's too late now. Since Tanner has done 'something' to her Nippon ;), whatever goes wrong in the future is now HIS fault. 'It was FINE until you messed it up'...

:hihi:

Figures, lol. She's pretty good about not blaming me for the screw ups thankfully, got her rotors turned the other day and they came back with a terrible wobble and brake pulse. They were smooth before but had some deep grooves told the guy that turned them and he said he would fix it or give me $ off of new ones.
