Hey guys, I'm planning ahead for the 5'ver I want to get next year. I have a 50 gal. "L" shaped fuel tank for my tractors that slides under the toolbox. I know I'll have to buy a smaller box - standard is 20" they make 17" and 12" deep boxes. My fuel tank takes up 13" behind the toolbox. So I guess my question is can any of you that has a 5th wheel installed measure from the front of the 5'ver bracket to the front of the box and tell me how much room I'll need ?

Thanks
Smitty

what size bed do you have? I wouldn't even attempt it with a standard bed....been there and done that. Never mind i see your sig. As long as the hitch is over the axles you can play some with the 5th Wheel...being careful when you turn. Mine had some adjustments and I moved it as far back as it wold let me....

Sorry, I forgot to add this is for my 07 LBZ which is short bed, crew cab. I just need to know the measurement between the 5th wheel and the front of the bed. If I go with the 12" deep toolbox plus 13" with the fuel tank - that's 25" total - will that give me enough room to install a 5th wheel and be able to turn without problems?
Thanks

I would never use a short bed for a 5th wheel again. I moved it as far back as I could and there were way too many close calls. I did get into my tool box once.....just barely a scratch.

Yeah, it sounds like I'll be getting the 12" deep box and give up my 20" - and I'll just have to remove my fuel tank when pulling a fifth wheel - which is not really a big deal - just two bolts, unplug the wiring and lift it out with my front end loader.
