Hey everybody, new guy here. Driving a 1995 c3500 dually 6.5 td with 152,000 miles, set up with 3 inch down pipe, 4 inch exhuast to a 5 inch tip and a cold air induction. Original owner of the truck. Found the site looking for help on why the lift pump quit working. Figure out that the ops does not work with the help of this great site. (thanks) Now I need help to figure out the best tool to use to remove the OPS. Love diesels becuse nothing like smelling diesel first thing in the morning as some would put it. Anything that has a motor and wheels and can put some G's on your body i'm all for it. Thanks for this site being here.. :)
Hopefully I posted this correctly.

Welcome 3500 Dually.

Folks I copied this from the intro forum new member needs a welcome and thoughts on tool, I just used a adjustable wrench on mine but mine being a 98 it's under intake no real room for a OPS socket, but since I had my intake off and easy access, IIRC on the 95 the OPS is on back of the block, does that necessitate the use of a OPS socket or do ya'll have a different method/tool to use?

I got lucky and found a deep socket that just barely fit, it was tight. I don't remember now if it was SAE or metric.

Before I installed the new OPS I got a nipple (I think 3"), a tee, plug and 90* elbow, all in brass. The nipple went first, then the tee, with the two items put together in the shape of a T. Then the plug went in the end of the tee pointed towards the firewall. Then the elbow went into the other end of the tee. With this configuration I was able to point the OPS out at an angle through a gap between the wire loom and the FM. Future access to the OPS will now be much easier.

Oh, by the way, this was on a 94 with the OPS at the back of the block.

I relocated mine as well out from under the intake using steel fittings vs brass located out to where my FFM used to be, In using steel fittings to preclude possible cyclic vibration failure with a long run of pipe in brass with OPS mounted on the end of elbows/nipple, I relocated my FFM off engine to up by radiator shroud

You can get the special ops socket at most auto parts stores around $10. Also a deep 1 1/16" socket will work. Have you considered a ops extention hose? http://www.pmdcable.com/
92-95 were at very rear of engine near driver side head just outside engine valley. 96-^ were ahead of FFM.

Mine are all on elbows at the back of the driver side heads. I have used a 1 1/16th DEEP socket and now have an OPS socket in all of my trucks with spare OPS's :skep: Yeah I got carried away because I haven't done done the ops relay mod on them yet.

Napa has an OPS socket on their miscelaneous tools wall where I live. OPS are common things. It is 1-1/16" but you might need to force it over connector which causes no damage.

Check out the LP and OPS troubleshooting thread in the technical reference section. There is a lot of OBD1 specific stuff on second and third page of that thread including a drawing for the OPS relay mod.

If OPS is bad, just butcher it.

You need the socket for putting it on.

Another way is to take out the GP controller, which is right above the OPS. Then you will have a little more room to work in.

Welcome, 3500 dually!! This is a great place to learn just about everything about your truck. for Future reference and to help others help you, take the time to fill out a signature for the bottom of your posts. Again, welcome and enjoy.

I want to thank everyone for responding, I know this might have been a re-run but all has help greatly. I also found the OPS mod also. I am looking into relocating the ops with a extension. Again I am so glad I found this site, AA++ site. Thanks
