Just got into a wreck yesterday- stupid move when it was pouring -thank goodness no one was injured. Now I have a delima- Im tired of pouring money into the Tahoe even thou I love the looks and fuel is at a very low cost to me. But I cover a long distance(250mi round trip) for work and a mpg would benifit me; also a smoother ride ins in order. Thus looking for a TDI or possibly swapping a 6.5 or 6.2 into a donar car that I have. The damage is at least $1500. In Feb spent $1500- Front End. And I calculated $2500-$3k to get it where I want it. Also the 6.5 is puffin like a chimmney, no oil burnin thou.

Thought, advice or suggestions???

Id have to say at 340K on the clock....i wouldnt be using the motor as a donar for anything. How bad is the body damage? Cosmetic or mechanical? Any pics?

I would think it would be easy enough to fix the tahoe...and if you really feel that isnt the best option, id go for the TDI. Finding a cheap one isnt easy as im sure you know. Selling the tahoe might not be easy with that many miles, but the WVO conversion is a plus.

Fix the Tahoe; Size matters, comfort is a necessity on long trips, as a safety concern preventing fatigue. If it rides too rough, switch to a softer tire as a cheap reversible solution. I hate every minute I have to ride in wife's Toyota, wish it'd burn up. It's due for a timing BELT, doesn't have a chain! (hear me o great god of fire) The good ol' american rigs are keepers in my book, they really don't make 'em like that any more. Also, In a worse wreck, the heavier vehicle is the winner.

yep

Think about what you want before you make a decision. Do you really want to get in a wreck in a TDI? MPG is important, but just how important is it? Lots to think about. Huh

Oh

Since I'm pissin' in your Grits, get a Duramax crewcab. And get it over with. The train horns off the Tahoe will fit at least.):h

Man, that's a tough call. I agree, 340K miles is probably a little long in the tooth. The TDIs are good vehicles, but unless it was a Touareg, I'd be less than happy.

You need to spend between 10-20K to get a decent low mileage TDI.

Cheapest is to fix the Tahoe and carry on.

Dura-ration _LOL!

Just got a check for $2900 - 250deductable from ins.(I thought mabey $1500)

And saw a sweet 2DR on E-Bay like mine navy and black and got fired up again about the old tahoe. So now I'll be talking to the body man and see if he'll work with me -to get the tahoe where I want it.

Just concerned about the 340k on the motor.

If i picked up a 6.2 as a backup, would everthing retrofit and drop right in and work??

I'll know more tomorrow but, it looks like they body shop found more/previous damage and said that it probally won't ride straight and recommend not to fix it.

Got another question, would swaping the motor and 4x4 into a gasser 2dr be fessable or practable.
