Need a new Key FOB for the 1998 Suburban What do I need to do? Dealer?

There is a procedure to make the vehicle recognize a new fob. Escapes me at the moment what it is though. Google?

I googled. It said you have to turn the key while holding the lock button and then hit the key fob twice and then hold it til it locks again or something to that effect

I'll try to remember to post it tomorrow

If they key is in the ON position during the programming procedure, the horn chirp will be disabled, if the key is in the OFF position, the horn chirp will be enabled. The horn will chirp when the lock button is pressed two times.

When reprogramming the remote control door lock reciever, All transmitters must be programmed at this time in order for the transmitters to operate the vehicle. Transmitters not programed at this time will not work and the procedure will have to be redone with all the transmitters.

Ground pin 4 to pin 8 of the data link connector (DLC). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors, and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.
Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the first transmitter to be programmed until the locks cycle (approximately 10 seconds).
Repeat step 2 for up to four total transmitters to be programmed (if available). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.
Remove the ground applied to the DLC.
Lock and unlock the doors in order to verify the transmitter operation.
Activate the rear window release in order to verify the transmitter operation.

The DLC is the connector around the drivers knees.
It is wherwe they plug into to check the Service Engine Soon Light.
It has a small tab on either the top or bottom.
The Tab is pins 9-16.

This is what my buddy that works for gm sent me on how to do my 1999 sub

There are a few online sellers like ikeyless dot com (if you have a functioning one they give you instructions on how to program new one). There are probably other vendors too. A friend mentioned another site but I can't remember.

I haven't tried it but was thinking about trying to find a smaller key for our Mazda minivan. The local Mazda dealer was outrageous for a new one something like $200 programmed.

What is the numerical sequence of the DLC. I know I've seen it posted before. I've been searching for 15 minutes and haven't found it yet

Before entering the programming mode, verify the possession of all the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, the memory erases the other transmitters. You may program up to 4 transmitters

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch

2) Usa a fused jumper (3 amp is sufficient) and connect terminal 8 (back/white wire) to terminal 4 (black wire)

3) Close all the doors

4) Turn ON the ignition switch
the doors will lock

5) Press and hold the following buttons on one of the transmitters for 30 seconds:
lock and unlock

6) After a 30 second delay, the doors will lock and unlock

Important:
DO NOT turn OFF the ignition . If the switch is turned OFF the first transmitter becomes inoperative.

7) In order to program extra transmitters repeat Step 5

8)Disconnect the fused jumper wire from the data link connector

9) Turn off ignition

10) Verify functions of all programmed transmitters.

I thought I did my 97 without jumping the DTC. I thought I turned the key on and held the lock button for 30sec or something like that. But who knows, that was several years ago!

But how about that remote start idea? I've been rolling that around in my head for a while. Is it possible to get a 3 button remote from a burb/tahoe for my 99 (CC pickup with no 'lift gate) and hook a remote start up to the lift gate output on the controler? I LOVE factory stuff, and HATE aftermarket stuff like this. They are always cheapy and look stupid. I also wondered about using a controler and remotes from a newer GM vehicle. The General is pretty good about stuff being compatible, sometimes with a little work. (ie 0411 ECM)
