I can blow thru the key hole of my fuel cap rather easily so I assume that it's vented. But, when my 6.5 1993 turbo starts to dog and won't take fuel I loosen it and it runs well. How can this be if it's already vented? The suction even seems to tighten up a loosened cap when driving to the point of building up a suction pressure at the cap and poor performance. It'll also lasts overnight! this suction. Will a clogged sock cause this? But what about the bi-pass valve that it's suppose to have when the sock gets frozen in ice if theirs water in the tank in winter. Will it just bi-pass when the sock is clogged?? New cap, checked with store and it's suppose to be the right one. Old one slightly harder to blow through. Or, does it work different once the cap is screwed on tight? Does it maybe vent above the seal, not through the key hole, where the clicker doesn't allow it to get too tight? Help!!

When I replaced the o rings in the filter housing, new fuel lines to the injector pump and drain, new return hose on top, all with tight clamps I do get great performance with seemingly strong advance from better fuel pressure. But after a couple of hours that cap must be loosened. Am I just getting surging that seems like good advance? I don't think so it's just to all around great performance until what , the sock gets clogged and the lift pump works harder to suck in the fuel overwhelming the vented fuel cap. Of course the air filter is new as is the fuel filter. The depression regulator is starting to leak I think I don't think this is related. Would the high vacume in the fuel tank start to suck at the return line from the injector pump?...

I havent ever came across a diesel spec locking fuel cap, I bet you have a gas one.

On a side note, I even had to make the GM parts guy double check, and sure enough, he was going to order the wrong one. parts guys arent allways right.

It is more like the computer at the part store pointing to the wrong fuel cap. IMO.
The computer only knows what is in the database.

At RockAuto, there is a GM ACDelco diesel cap. It is a little bit more expensive but it should be the correct one.

Peel the valve from the bottem of the cap.
You don't need no vac in the tank, better for the LP too + you got 2 extra lbs of fuel pressure.
