Most of you are following my Blazer thread.

I want to keep the stock exhaust (pipes) as it is quite good shape yet.

I want to change the mufflers out to get a little better flow and a nice tone.

NO droning
So many mufflers will drone like Hell and are anoying.

Flowmasters *** Magnaflow ??? what is the best choice for the 6.2 to get a nice deep V8 Rumble without the nasty Rap and drone common with some systems.

Any input is really welcome.

Thanks :)
Missy

I don'r remember, are you leaving it NA?

With Turbo, my 6.5 sounds good with an empty cat as a resonator(?) and straight pipe. I run Flowmasters on the '67 for a sweet sound and good flow. No mistaking the big piston sound. The neighbor 2 doors down likes the sound of it too... ;)

She said so.
I believe her. Wifey likes it too.

i think these are antique magnaflows. They were on it since i bought the truck, and it sat untouched for over 10 years and those mufflers were on it when the PO bought it over 11 years ago. They look like Flowmasters, but in the rusty surface i can see what looks like an M for the first letter on the name.

This video is quite old, but here's what they sound like.

Mine drones like hell because i have zero sound deadening/insulation in the truck since it was all moldy/nasty when i bought it. Nothing on the floors but Herculiner, rear side panels and insulation removed, etc etc.

That was all free rev in the driveway with the door open and the camera held outside pointed towards the rear of the truck, yet it wasn't dark outside. Camera's toast it seems.

I can take a vid going through the gears if you want Missy.

Dave

Thanks a bunch

The note is just what I am looking for.

With the Body off the frame, its a perfect time to get at all that stuff now.

Really easy to use the sawzall and cut out the old Mufflers and weld in the new ones.

Really looking for a 3" complete dual kit but, the MFg's dont seem to offer kits for these old rigs any longer :0(

I have a flowmaster on my Dually. It has a nice rumble. The trick to the "Rap" is more placement of the muffler in the system. If you want a rap you put the mufflers as close to the manifold(Headers on gasser) as possible. If you want rumble put the muffler as far back as you can to cut down on the echo in the tail pipes(Rap).

Glad i could help you out Missy. My buddy drove my blazer down the street once and it has a combination of a big block rumble and a sound all it's own(due to the compression the 6.2 has), but it's not obnoxiously loud. It almost sounds like a 2-stroke detroit slowed down to 1/2 speed when i'm into the pedal a good bit.

As far as mounting, the mufflers are mounted in the same location the stock mufflers were mounted.

Thanks for the input.

Looks like the flowmasters are gonna be the ticket.

Still snooping around for a complete Exhaust Kit.

Would be sweet to install all new stuff under the truck while its all easy to get to.

The only thing i noticed, and i'm sure you are aware of this already being around GM's creations much longer than i have, would be the exhaust size for the factory piping.

According to the books at work, and the tips i installed on the rear, the exhaust goes from 2.5" into the muffler to 2.25 out to the tailpipes. Whoever installed the mufflers on my truck didn't seem to care, and they leaked like a screen door on a submarine. I had to go under there with the welder and fill in the gaps. It looked like someone or some shop tried to install this system, as there are some pipes that fit perfectly and have welds, and others than a blind person could've seen that it would've leaked.

Did any of the gasser blazers have a true dual kit? There's a fully restored 80s with a 70s grille/nose blazer running around here that has duals at the rear. Never looked under to see if it's true duals or not.
