I have been reading as much info as I can find old post and surfing the net still I have questions...

When you select TDC time set and then select off is that the luck off the draw like playing a slot machine? The number that the TDC time ends up at does that number have any bearing on the outcome if the TDC learn that can be obtained then?

Or is TDC learn just like an initialization function to prepare the puter for us to perform the TDC learn?

When we select TDC learn, how much variability should we expect to get? Mine was not giving much of a range, especially anything with a negative number very small range to pick from? If you do not end the TDC learn function, how is the offset then selected, by default from timeout or is there some other means that it ends up at?

Also what purpose does the memory dump function provide us with, when would want we to use memory dump for what?

I sent a PM to Stephan so if I get answers I'll share em.

TIA

Memory dump is the mapping of the chip that is installed.Aborting time set leaves it where it was at before .
Have you tried the throttle control and transmission control? Or cylinder disable? Fun and helpful for diagnostics.

Not yet, just last night got my feet wet for the 1st time with the timing learn functions & snapshot info.

Great program, just wish it had a little more descriptive documentation. I like to tinker and now at nearly 50 yrs old finally starting to relize all the things that I have touched in my lifetime that I should have left well enough alone lol...gaining more confidence with it, skeerd don't want to fudge up anything.

Time Set is for the PCM to adjust the stepper motor so timing can be varied with rpm, at least that's how I understand it. If your pump is already in time then Time Set isn't necessary.

The TDCOffset learn can be varied a bit by raising the idle speed while in learn. You may come up with a value more to your liking.

I tried playing with the idle slight varying it while in TDC learn, it didn't seem to change anything, but thanks for the suggestion, I think that I read that in one of the numerous post that I have hunted down. That rpm thing might only work for OBD11?

The memory dump provides someone with the right tools the ability to see what the PCM is programmed to do.

Timeset value is not that important, just setting up the PCM. Ideally you want to see that it is about 3.5-3.8 average to get a good TDCO value.

TDCO learn will time out and select the value at that time. Ending it yourself should set it at the value on the display at the time. There are times at which ending it early doesnt work right, and you should just redo the whole procedure if it starts moving around after setting it.

Thanks so if I stop the TDC time set say at 3.1 vs 3.8 does that alter the available TDC offset any that can be obtained?

Oh and one more thing is there any harm or risk when we run the TDC set or learn futures? I can hear somin going on in there that's for sure...???

Ive done time set and TDCO about 100 times on my one truck, if thats any indication. Its altering the timing is all, which is why things change.

Stopping the timeset at a given value doesnt change TDCO range. The amount of range in timeset might be a indication of the TDCO range.
