I got the Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40. Is this synthetic? It seems to run smoother than the Mobil 5W40 in my 6.5TD.

I have a few synthetic Mobil 5W40 quarts left, do you think they would mix if I need some oil on a long trip or if its low in a month or two?

At $6 a quart I didnt want to let the 5W40 just sit.

Thanks,
Tom

No...it has to say Mobil 1 Delvac...which is a 5w40

I don't think mixing them would hurt at all...it just would not give you the longevity between changes that a full synthetic change would...

Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40 is NOT synthetic.

You can get Mobil 1 Turbo-diesel Truck 5W40 or Mobil 1 Delvac 5W40 if you want Mobil synthetic. According to Mobil's website they are both the same exact oil, just packaged differently for marketing purposes. But both are hard to find.

I read an article at the BobistheOilguy.com website that says that if you have to mix, it is better to mix dino oil with synthetic rather than to mix two different brands of synthetic oils.

Mobil 1 TDT 5W40 and Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40 ------------- OK

Shell Rotella T 15W40 and Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40 ---------- OK

Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W40 and Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W40 --- NO!

The Delvac 1300Super is a very good oil for dino. It has stout additive level.

As stated above, don't use Mobil1 5W-40, they are gasser oil.

What you want is Mobil1 TDT 5W-40 or Mobil1 Delvac 5W-40 synthetic, TDT is Turbo Diesel Truck. The one without TDT is for the German's gasser car like Mercedes, BMW and VW.

So, if it does not way TDT 5W-40 or Delvac 5W-40, don't want to mix it.

thanks, I have the turbo diesel 5w40 quarts. didn't burn any oil the 1000 miles yesterday. another 1000 miles today. I got 3 quarts of the tdt 5w40 if I need to add any.

Thats where I picked it up, got 4 gallons of it, all I could get on the shelf. My truck takes 2 gallons exactly with the 2 quart oil filter I put in.

I think the D'max takes 8 quarts of oil, stock. You should need 3 gallons with the 2 quart filter. In any event, it is good oil.

I drive the lowly 6.5, so I guess I have smaller oil pan. If I had more clearance I would get a larger one, but Im happy only having to buy 2 gallons.
