I am trying to crank up my mercury 3.0 4 cly I/O which hasn't run in 2+ years. I fogged it, stabil'ed fuel, and drained water.

I put in new plugs and cleaned the distributor cap but it doesn't seem to be firing just spins over. How do I check the coil and or electronics in the distributor. And or verify its not firing.

I took a plug out and cranked but did not see any arcing on the plug.

Is there a good online diy repair similar to alldataydiy.com. I googled and iboat.com had seloc website. I briefly looked at it looks good any others???

Arrghh the kill switch was partially tripped. The lanyard was still attached and I did not notice it.

I mistakenly switched 3-4 plug wires too on pre start lubbing of cylinders and or plug change distributor cap cleaning. But carb was gummed up pretty bad. 2 years is a lot to ask of gas these days even with Stabil treatment.

DMaxMaverick over on the page gave me some tips for old gas that helped me over on the page. New gas dilution and chemtool B12 is good for old gas and gummed carbs. Seafoam too.

Anyway, would still like to know about Seloc website or any other repair manual info for Mercury or Mercruiser I/O's.

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing in my jet boat. The clip was attached but not fully engaged. If you find one please post the link. I have been looking myself. My bro-in-laws dad gave me a deck boat with a 3.0 in it. it needs a good scrubbing and some new seat covers but it is structurally sound and it has sat for 2 years also. Haven't even tried to see if it turns over yet. I am going to pull the carbs this weekend and give them a good soaking and do what I can but this is the first time I work on a I/O unit. I use seafoam in all of my boats, and in my lil car, good stuff.
