Simple requirement that the engine still runs. Doesn't have to hit all 8. Still moves under own power towing a trailer. :rolleyes5:

Starts and runs with a bit of a miss and shake. No unusual mechanical knocks.

Under the hood looks like an oil rig. Compressor covered. Fan got oil on it. Intake covered... Well everything is oiled down.

Oil filler puffs like a steam locomotive. (Even with the cap on.) Both valve cover gaskets blown out. Dipstick moved up and smoking. Oil and blow by coming out of, well, everywhere...

Sounded like pre ignition ping and lost some power while thinking 'now what is that noise?'. Was towing flat out when it happened. (And today was lighter load that the past 2 days.) Suspect piston failure. Not sure if it dropped a valve or burned one from an injector going south.

Injectors and GP replaced around 10-15K ago. Had a little blow by but not anything major when I checked it this week. CDR was taking care of it anyway. Oil use was a quart every 500 miles.

Any guesses as to causes of piston failure that don't bust the block or rods?

I will be sending the injectors in for testing.

Chevy cowboy's suppoedly blew the pistons up from the ip going whack. His was 93 also. Don't be too shure the block isn't toast untill it's all checked out. Just cuz it didn't start mixing fluids doesn't mean it isn't cracked.I guess I'm a pessamist. I've seen too many cracked main webs recently and heads cracked between the valves. Here's a place not real far from you with guarenteed military take-outs http://www.boyceequipment.com/

mine did had all the same symptums back in november. i am leaning toward it somehow overfueled and this caused exsses cyl temps. which caused piston cracking in 3 pistons. one of those 3 cracked pistons froze in the cyl. and the wrist pin procced to tear away from the rest of the piston. upon further inspection i found masive cracks in the main webs. had to get a newblock

It still runs with some ether to start it. Glows alone would not start it to get her on the trailer in 4 Lo. Not blown up yet.

Just not worried about the 'severe engine damage from starting fluid' sticker anymore. :rocketwhore:

If it was using a quart every 500 miles before thats pretty bad. I mean that would be like an oil change between each oil change

See, now that's another nice thing about owning a truck older than half the people driving. On top of never having to care where you park (and sometimes scaring high-end car owners witless by parking next to them), it'll eventually consume oil at a rate that negates the imperative to ever change it. Just keep her topped off!

Oil is always at 100% additive!! Change the filter once a year so it doesn't rust, and be done with it!

Suspect 3 injectors. #1 cyl injector oily so that is likely the blown piston.

Burned up the starter getting it on the trailer. Found this out while getting it off the trailer. “Push! And someone else make the noise…”

As the sayings go, "Enter often to win" or "The more you play the more you win."
And with your signature block, you are certainly in a position to be the king.
