I want to make my van a 4x4, I do alot of winter driving in snow, I have a 98 Jimmy but now have 2 kids, dog, wife and of course matching gear, its a nightmare packing the Jimmy and can't afford a new truck. I can do all my own work so that's not an issue. Anyone have any info, pics on how to do this? I know I'll need a trans, transfer case-suggestions even electric will be ok as I don't go offroading, custom shafts and of course, front axle-suggestions? but have no idea on what to do to the front and what leaf springs to get?

Thanks. I've surfed google but didn't find much, :(

I think Quiglys Conversions might make a conversion kit for you,I see quit a few chevys and fords in our area that are 4x4.

You could also get a rolling chassis from a wrecked newer van (2003+) that was 4wd from the factory (an "H" van instead of a "G").

For sure, lucky Fords in that respect but that Pathfinder link makes it look like cake, they even make the engine crossmember for $220, steal,

I always wanted a custom Suburban conversion. Stretched with the roof raised to van height.
Somebody used to make a Burb with a raised roof. I never saw a stretched and raised. At least not that I noticed.
Other than a Suburban Limo.
