Good day all,

a guy with a 1998 K1500 wants to install a S&B CAI.

Problem is that those CAI fit only on trucks with no Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF).

Is there any possibility of cheating with the ECM, other than a reflash, and make a kind of a fooler which
can allow to By-pass the MAF, and so we can install the CAI?

You have to reflash/rechip to remove the MAF on the MAF equipped trucks.

I haven't worked on a lot of them but IIRC the MAF on the 6.5 was primarily for emissions purposes.

Even if it is used in the calculations for fuel and timing (which would be good from a towing perspective!), it's simply removed by most programmers.

I have maf on my truck and a Kojo tune. I almost sold my truck so i removed the k47 and put on a ss diesel hot air intake to take to the dealership to trade in. The version i used wasnt for a maf so i just removed it from the truck. With the maf unplugged it never set a code and it ran the same for the week it was on. Maybe because my truck has a tune thats why it runs fine without it but idk. Fwiw Kojo did say if your truck has a maf to keep it plugged in unless it is tuned to run without it.

very interesting.

They're the only one I've heard of that recommends retaining the MAF.

I'd love to have a looky see in that cal file!
