Low Coolant Light

I have a 1996 GMC 6.5 Turbo Diesel. The Low Coolant Light has come on, but the coolant is up to the cold mark (when cold) and the temp guage is reading normal. Any ideas other than a bad low coolant sensor? Is there any way to check the sensor? Thanks in advance for your good advice. Bill

I think you can short the wires together to make the light go out. If it does then sensor is shot. Can't remember if that's replaceable or need a whole new tank. I had to replace the tank on my Tahoe but it was leaking.
