Hey guys, got a 1995 Chevy 6.5td in the shop here, it's making a very loud poping noise out the turbo. I took the air cleaner off and i can feel the pulse every time it pops out the inlet side of the turbo. Truck seems to run good. Kinda stuck here need some help! This is a "S" motor BTW.

Complete guess here, but broken valve spring? Something is allowing pressure to go backwards.

Also, while it's shut off, see if you can wiggle the shaft on the input side of the turbo.

This is one of those occasions where a youtube video of the problem would be exceptional.

Either a BAD lifter or as was mentioned a bad valve spring

My 94 burb will do this at the first fireoff after sitting a few days but goes away as soon as the oil gets to things.

Its not all that uncommon

Found the problem, somehow the pushrod managed to poke a hole in the rocker arm! on the #1 exhaust valve. Gonna change the lifter, push rod, rocker, and retainers and see what happens.

Good thing it is on the "easy" side : ) and it is nothing tooo major....How many miles on the engine that it wore through the rocker arm?? Just a thought make sure the push rod is not plugged up, maybe it couldn't pump oil up to the rocker and that is why it wore through. just my .02
