Lost cruise control

My cruise just went away...nothing. My brake switch doesn't seem to be malfunctioning (brake lights come on and go off with the pedal), but I'm not sure how to test it for sure.

I'm leaning more towards my E-Brake switch, if there is such a thing. I used to drive around with the e-brake pressed just enough to kill the lights, but sometimes after a while, I'd hear a buzzing noise and look to the dash to see my red e-brake light and green DRL light flickering back and forth. As if the e-brake was being applied, then disengaged very quickly. Obviously I hadn't pushed the pedal far enough to fully disengage the DRL's.

This happened a few times, so I'm assuming that buzzing sound is not good. Everything else seems to be working and seems fine, just no cruise. I think I fried whatever that switch is enough to kill my cruise.

Ideas? How to I test both the e-brake and regular brake switch?

Anything else I can test to find out why I lost my cruise?

does the cruise light come on?? fuse??

if the light comes on and no go check the servo motor and vacuum lines.
speed sensors on ABS??

Uh, he doesn't have any of that stuff on his truck. All electronic control to the IP; no servos.

mgray, I'd go looking for that ebrake switch issue, were I you. And leave your DRLs on, darnit, you're hard to see!

I would also check for a stored code... your cruise goes away if you have the right code in storage.

the regular brake switch is 2 parts. one half is for the light. it's normally open and the other half is normally closed. the 2nd half in my case is for the tranny but it might be shared for you

First off scan for DTCs. Any DTC=no cruise. ABS codes will not affect cruise only engine. The brake light switch is multi function. It controls the TCC, Cruise and brake lights. Yo can have brake lights and switch still be bad. It will code 41(actually thats OBD1 not sure code in OBD2 but look on 6.5 section). Secondly don't drive around with ebrake on. Bad. Can burn up brake or worse, set wheel on fire . If you don't like DTRL then pull the fuse. I blew the one on mine and just never replaced it. there is a separate fuse for DTRL. They don't require them anymore and to my knowledge don't come through anymore with them. My wife's Pilot is the newest thing we own 2003 and it doesnt have them.

I have only had two incidents when my cruise wouldn’t work. One was when my PMD was starting to go out and the other was when the input sensor on the trans (VSS) was taking a crap. Just my 2 cents with my experiences.
