I'm going yard hopping what will interchange with the 6.5TD's starter ?
Can gasser Gut's be stuffed into the Diesel casing ?

I don't have $280 bucks for a starter. . .
I don't have $180 bucks for a starter. . .

I have about 80 bucks to spend and i need to cobble somthing togeter to get this Wreck running i don't need somthing Godd n long lasting just enough to get me by for now when spring comes i'll be able to throw cash at this truck.
I just need to get threw winter layoff. . .

Mike

Any idea at all what is wrong with the one you have? A gasser starter is completely different. A starter from a 6.2 diesel will work. Have you looked on craigslist in your area?Lots of used parts on there in my area.

I Marked thet starter on watch list for Ebay.
I called around today about replacement starters i spaced out Rebuild kits. . .

solnoid is great clicks and hits nice and hard, the electro motor it's dont spin over.

thanks
Mikey

Solonoid could click hard but not make contact to motor. Try a jumper from battery cable connection to motor connection. If the motor spins the contact in the solonoid is bad. You may be able to just take the solonoid apart and clean up the contact. Price-Free

I found 2 starters for $30 I figures between those and mine we can patch somthing together. . .

Mike

Definately test yours, as I have had electrical issues on starters in the past and a direct feed to the starter would do it. Battery cables may be broken in the line somewhere....

the easiest way I found to check the contacts what to energize the solenoid and the run a resistance test across it. you can flip the contact disk over. another free fix. BTW the 6.2 starters are slightly different. they're direct drive and the front bracket is longer. I'll see if I can find the link for the solenoid repair. if it is bad they're under 30 bucks for a new one.

one more thing I forgot to add. some of the newer 6.2's did come with the same starters as the 6.5's. you'll know the difference when you see it.

Well i'll be testing both starters once i get them out and togethr as well as my own starter. . .

I fgures at $30 and the parts storse charging 50-75 for cores how could i not come out ahead ?

Mike

$30 bucks i got a 1 working starter from the 3 and he gave me 4 good glow plugs. . .

Mike

Now i can weed out the few glow plugs i have that are bad with an ok set to get me by, than once lay off is over n things thaw out i'll drop some cash on a new top notch set. . .

As for the starter the one i rigged seems to be insanely heathy as i have never had this eninge roll this fast its spinng it over a good 75 rpm faster than the old starter was so i may just leave it be tho when i got funds for new starter i may just buy it and keeo it in my truck so it can be changed on site. . .

Mike

When you're back to work you may want to consider a powermaster starter. It will spin faster than any other that i've heard of. $300 something from summit racing. Glad it worked out for you. I know how hard times are.

Glad you found something. I always get my rebuilt, Around 50 bucks or so at a local guy who does it in his barn

i thought so he tested the glow plugs to prove they worked and he bench tested the starter so everything is in working order as to how ong they'll last who knows but trucks on the road for now. . .
